Under the general direction of the Director, Clinical Leader or Respiratory Therapist, the Respiratory Therapy Tech performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures ordered by a physician. Duties include medical gas administration, aerosol therapy, obtaining and analyzing blood specimens, performing patient testing, operating and maintaining various types of respiratory and cardiopulmonary equipment. Additional responsibilities include completing documentation in-patient and departmental records, cleaning equipment and maintaining safety and infection control practices. Clean, disinfect and set up equipment of daily use, including exchange of medical gas tanks.Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Education: Must have high school diploma or equivalent or be a current Respiratory student from an accredited facility. Student permit from Kansas Board of Healing Arts preferred Licensure/Certifications: Excellent interpersonal skills required. Ability to achieve and maintain BCLS certification required. Experience: Must be Respiratory student. Experience may be obtained through a basic fundamentals of Respiratory course at an accredited school of Respiratory with a clinical rotation in a skilled or acute care setting.

The Respiratory Therapist provides treatment, care and evaluation for patients with respiratory insufficiencies. The tasks and responsibilities include:Delivers and assesses responses to ordered therapy per plan of care including routine and intensive therapy and diagnostic procedures.Utilizes various types of oxygen and other therapeutic gas equipment such as masks, tents and incubators.Administers prescribed doses of medicinal gases and aerosol drugs.Measures ventilatory volumes, pressures and blood gas analysis.Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition and general acceptance of treatment.Performs a variety of duties related to setting up, operating, cleaning, sterilizing, and storing respiratory therapy equipment.Responds to emergency team calls.Educates patients and family members and provides information about community support groups and other available programs.Provides age and culturally appropriate care.Orients and mentors new staff members.Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Duties include, but not limited too: The incumbent assists in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of patients suffering from cardiac failure, asthmas, emphysema, shock, pneumonia, and countless other disorders affecting either directly or indirectly the cardiopulmonary system. Duties may consist of continuous artificial ventilation, obtaining blood and exhaled gases, and the administration of various pharmaceutical agents, gases, aerosols, and intermittent positive pressure therapy. The incumbent maintains, cleans, and operates the many adjunctive devices that enable him/her to perform their tasks.

- ARRT Required- 3-5 years experience- Provides respiratory therapy to patients are ordered by physicians.
