POSITION PURPOSEThe position is responsible for providing leadership to ensure the Controller�s Office is successful in meeting the ongoing business needs of the College by providing timely and accurate accounting and financial reporting deliverables, while seeking and achieving continuous development of staff and continuous enhancement of financial services, systems, processes and work product. ESSENTIAL DUTIES1. Manage assigned financial reporting functions, including preparation of monthly financial statements for presentation to the Controller and senior management. Manage the accounting and journal entry processes related to the financial statements, month end close and year end close, including manual and spreadsheet entries, mass allocations, recurring journal entries, elimination entries and intercompany entries. 2. Participate in the audit process and manage the completion of the audit workpapers for the consolidated College financial statements, Children�s Specialty Group and Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin.3. Manage the timely and accurate completion of financial surveys, settlements, balance sheet reconciliations and other financial reporting and accounting duties, as assigned.4. Direct managerial responsibility for designated Controllers Office personnel, including staff selection, development of work schedules, staff training, active staff development, performance management and promotional recommendations. Ensure that staff are held to a high standard in performing work in an independent manner, in a changing environment, with demonstrated ownership, proficiency and innovation, and in compliance with departmental standards for quality, accuracy and timeliness.5. Be knowledgeable and proficient with financial accounting systems that support the financial reporting and accounting functions and related financial operations. Ensure system functionality is fully and efficiently utilized on a daily basis to enhance the effectiveness of deliverables and service. 6. Actively participate in identifying and implementing process enhancements to ensure that the financial reporting services are continually enhanced to achieve efficiencies while maintaining high quality deliverables and appropriate level of internal control. OTHER DUTIES:Perform other duties as assigned.MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONSAppropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis Education: Bachelor�s Degree in AccountingExperience: 8 year of accounting experience with progressive responsibility for the management of accounting and financial reporting functions. Experience in a non-profit organization preferred. Public accounting background required. Certifications/Licenses: CPAKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIESExperience with the preparation, analysis, forecasting and auditing of complex financial statements is required. Proficient knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and the ability to apply such knowledge to accounting and financial reporting activities, including the preparation of audit footnotes.Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills. Experience in working independently to analyze available information, draw conclusions and understandings, and present such conclusions effectively to senior management. Excellent managerial, staff development and team-building knowledge, skills and abilities is required. The ability to continually focus on staff development to ensure team members have the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to work independently and successfully in a changing environment. Excellent computer skills, including MS Excel, MS Word, automated accounting software and related report writing tools is required. Experience with process automation and process enhancement highly desired. The successful candidate will need to identify areas for change and have the ability to maintain a consistent focus on process efficiencies.
