Position Summary: Provides administrative and secretarial support for 2-3 attending physicians clinical practices in the Department of Otolaryngology, including but not limited to answering phones, relaying messages, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and coordinating transcription. Posts surgical procedures, and coordinates insurance verifications and pre-authorizations for assigned physicians surgical cases. Coordinates non-clinical administrative activities, including but not limited to licensure maintenance, applications, travel arrangements, and typing correspondence. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital´s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.Required Education/Training: High School graduate or GED equivalent. Completion of secretarial or business program preferred. Required Experience: A minimum of one to two years of related office experience required. Previous experience in a medical office environment strongly preferred. Ability to type 55 to 60 words per minute. Knowledge of medical terminology. Word processing experience, with particular knowledge of Word/WordPerfect, DOS and file maintenance. Effective oral and written communication skills. Must possess basic mathematical skills. Must have ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of individuals.
