As a Certified Coder, you will perform a variety of technically complex medical record classification system coding for ambulatory/outpatient/inpatient medical conditions. Audit medical/specialty diagnoses and procedures reported by providers and apply technical Department of Defense (DoD) coding requirements. Conduct educational coding and documentation training classes to professional medical staff. Code all complicated and complex medical/specialty disease processes and patient injury diagnoses and all medical procedures in a wide range of ambulatory/inpatient settings and specialties. Oversee all coding functions for the Ambulatory Data System. Set coding policies and procedures for the Medical Record Department to ensure that all coding is performed IAW Federal and DoD requirements. Perform qualitative assurance coding studies to ensure coding accuracy and adherence to coding standards and prescribed practices. Review and monitor assignments of codes for internal consistency.NOTE: Incumbent must have obtained a certification in one of the following before being assigned to any grade level of this position. 1.
