POSITION: Service Line DirectorSTATUS: Regular Full-Time/FlexibleDEPARTMENT: OrthopedicsDATE POSITION WILL BE AVAILABLE: ASAPBRIEF DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for developing orthopedic services at KDMC and for coordinating ongoing communications with Orthopedic Surgeons and others that are involved with ensuring high quality, cost-effective care of Orthopedic Services at KDMC. Integral part of the team; leading, directing, and formulating short and long term strategies to ensure the organizational objectives are achieved for orthopedic services. Develops, implements and manages the business plan for Orthopedic Services and coordinates the development of business, financial, statistical and budgetary goals for the Orthopedic services line. Projects future capital and operational resource needs and develops business plans to support those needs. Assures effective relationships through communication and teamwork for accomplishment of the objectives of program; provides central coordination to avoid duplication of efforts and streamline system planning for Orthopedic Services. Maintains regular and ongoing communications with Orthopedic Surgeons to build business and develop state of the art services that will position KDMC as the recognized leader in Orthopedic Services throughout the service area. Collaborates with physicians and medical director to develop and implement the strategic objectives of Orthopedic Services at KDMC. Attends physician meetings and acts as liaison to respond to physician needs. Identifies and initiates requests for short term and long term capital equipment needs and supplies that are required to develop the service line. Supports the recruitment and retention of Orthopedic Surgeons and other providers that are integral to the development of Orthopedic Services. Promotes and facilitates the development, implementation and ongoing variance monitoring of comprehensive plan of care for Orthopedic Service patients that effectively maximizes patient care while efficiently utilizing resources; meets or exceeds established clinical outcomes, revenue targets and customer service benchmarks. Aggressively pursues market and new business development opportunities for orthopedic services at KDMC and with its service area. Maintains a system of management reporting that provides the organization with timely and relevant information in all areas of responsibility. Maintains, analyzes, and acts upon financial information related to Orthopedic Services , its departments, and associated services to include costs, charges, payer mix, reimbursement, utilization trends, and contractual profiles. Assumes profit and loss responsibility for Orthopedic Services; identifies revenue-producing and cost-containment opportunities. Assist in budget development at the service line level. In collaboration with the Finance Department, develops innovative service packages, which respond to stated or implied customer needs. Maintains current knowledge of competitor pricing and makes recommendations for appropriate pricing of services provided; develops vendor relationships and assist in contract selections. Develops and implements an annual marketing plan for the Orthopedic Services in conjunction with the Marketing Department. Plans programs and events to promote wellness and screening of orthopedic disease. Maintains positive community relations within the scope of the service line. Establishes and maintains relationships with other networks, hospitals, and physicians in order to develop and strengthen referral bases or contract affiliations, participates on appropriate system clinical councils and task forces. Facilitates integration on Orthopedic Services throughout the continuum of care, including integration of service across the health system. Responsible for compliance of policies and procedures with accreditation agency requirements, federal, state or local laws and regulations. Directs the performance improvement activities to assure the quality of care and service provided.QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in a clinical or business discipline and at least five years of proven leadership experience developing Orthopedic Services within a health care organization, a Masters degree strongly preferred. Demonstrated skill in leadership, finance/budgeting, marketing, physician relations and customer service. Strong communication skills required along with solid organizational and problem solving skills. Minimum of ten years progressive experience in a healthcare management role, five of those years in the Orthopedic service line. Experience in managing functions/departments located across multiple sites that have matrixed reporting relationships. Knowledge of current approaches to the delivery of orthopedic care.
