Working within a team based environment, performs interpretation, abstraction and codification of data and assists in the operation and maintenance of the Trauma Registry for designated acute care facilities. Duties include interpreting and abstracting data, scoring data by injury, entering data into computer, compiling statistical data, performing statistical analysis, generating a variety of reports as directed, communicating with internal and external personnel regarding data retrieval and interpretation, processing approved release of data requests, providing input into the review and revision of policies and procedures, and participating on various committees and in designated projects as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Graduate from an approved Health Record Administrator or Health Record Practitioner diploma program, successful completion of the Canadian College of Health Record Administrators examination at the Certificate level plus one (1) years recent, related experience including data interpretation, analysis and coding in an acute care setting or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Under general supervision of the Regional Coding Manager/Manager of Inpatient Coding, the Clinical Documentation Specialist is responsible for improving overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation to accurately reflect patient severity of illness and risk of mortality through extensive interaction with physician, case management, nursing staff, other patient caregivers and coding staff. Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of an approved Health Information Technology/Management program with credentials of RHIA, RHIA eligible, RHIT, RHIT eligible, CCS, CCS-P and/or graduate from an accredited nursing program with RN licensure. Two years of experience in acute care setting. One year of inpatient coder experience preferred.
