SALARY: $3807 - $4648 Approximate Monthly Equivalent; Paid Biweekly.QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university AND current certificate as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by the American Health Information Management Association AND current certificate as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) AND five (5) years of coding experience in ICD, CPT, HCPCS, inpatient, outpatient surgery, outpatient, and ED records in a healthcare setting, including at least three (3) years in a lead or supervisory capacity.ORCompletion of a Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management from an accredited college or university AND current certificate as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by the American Health Information Management Association AND five (5) years of coding experience in ICD, CPT, HCPCS, inpatient, outpatient surgery, outpatient, and ED records in a healthcare setting, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.ORAn equivalent combination of education and experience.APPLICATION SUPPLEMENT MUST BE COMPLETED AND INCLUDED WITH YOUR APPLICATION MATERIALS. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supervises Health Information Services Coders to include: prioritizing and assigning work, ensuring staff is trained, conducting performance evaluations and making hiring, disciplinary, and termination recommendations. Supervises the day-to-day operational activities in an assigned area of responsibility; develops and implements operational policies and procedures to ensure timely coding and abstracting processes. Collects, prepares and analyzes statistical data. Oversees coding of diagnoses and procedures that are performed for inpatient, outpatient and emergency medical services. Ensures coding systems, processes and reports are optimized so that data specific to each visit is accurately abstracted for the revenue cycle, research, OSHPD, data comparison studies, and medical record reviews. Reviews patient records for accuracy and completeness; arranges for authorized corrections and deletions, as necessary. Consults with appropriate medical staff regarding patient medical records and related coded information. Develops record systems and maintains data on central management information system or micro computer. Maintains records standards in compliance with all state, local and other regulatory agencies and prepares for regulatory changes. Receives input on departmental QA data, and works to implement process improvement at the unit level to minimize errors. Analyzes and monitors KPI (Key Performance Indicator) data and key departmental reports, distributing relevant information and discussing with staff. Consults with outside coding resources and coordinates their activities to ensure hospital quality and performance standards are met. Prepares for regulatory changes and ensures regulatory compliance. Develops and implements operational policies and procedures. Assists other departments which handle health information in following best practices.Other Functions: Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
