Responsibilities 1. Provides leadership, direction and talent development of finance functions; supervises employees performing financial reporting, accounting and budgeting. Serves in liaison role to the VP Finance, 501(a) Physician leaders and practice managers, COOs, Presidents, and senior management team. Ensures integrity of financial data and presents financial information with authority and confidence. Acts as A CFO of a large Multi- specialty Physician practice including academic physicians and research activities. 2. Analyzes internal data and industry trends to provide decision support related to assessment of financial risks, monitoring of risk mitigation plans, financial performance and maintenance of financial plans and forecasts. Conducts complex analyses to evaluate alignment with business strategy. Ensures clear and current financial data supportive of mission goals. Ensures integrity of financial data; assists leadership with financial analysis, profitability review, business plan development, 3. Coordinates development of department, operating, and capital budgets for assigned sites. Guides in the development of meaningful budgets targeted at physician practice management. Works with others in support of Integrated Strategic Operational and Fiscal Plan (ISOFP) by compiling, writing, submitting, calculating, and responding to 5-year plan; supervise creation of ISOFP. 4. Oversees the function of financial reporting for assigned areas including production of monthly financial statements, preparation of summary reports and presentations on financial results and operational trends. Supports the Physician Enterprise MSO by development of individual physician profit and loss statements. 5. Supports annual audit of financial accounts for assigned sites assuring that required documentation and all necessary schedules are provided on a timely basis. Meets with internal audit function to set direction and design corrective action plans for areas of responsibility. Provides timely response to internal audit requests. 6. Develops/assures strong internal control policies and guidelines for activities of accounting, budget administration, and cash management. Reviews financial operations, policies and procedures to assess appropriateness of internal controls and meeting of Ascension Health standards. Coordinates modification and development of internal controls, as needed. 7. Provides timely responses to requests from Seton tax department for information in support of preparation of Form 990´s and other tax filings for assigned sites. Identifies tax issues related to transactions for communication and resolution with Tax area. 8. Responsible for Budget-to-Actual Comparison, including analyzing, trending, and variance analysis. Communicates identified leases to Accounting area for appropriate accounting treatment. Balance Sheet valuation using appropriate/prescribed methods to achieve reliability and relevance. Creates forward-looking financial models, interprets results, and makes recommendations. Capital planning and develop Pro Forma for strategic decision support. Updates strategic and financial plans, as needed. 9. Responsible for review and validation of balance sheet, income statement and statistics for areas of responsibility. 10. Assures compliance with all relevant laws and regulations as specified by Medicaid, Medicare, Stark Laws, IRS, state and local requirements. 11. Recruits and screens top talent for finance department, sets goals and expectations, provides development and support, assures accountability, serves as mentor for employees and creates environment for outstanding performance. 12. Directs all aspects of the operating budget; coordinates the development, Board review, and submission of Integrated Strategic Operational and Fiscal Plan (ISOFP) five-year plan, to include long-range projections of operating results. Develops Net Revenue Budget based on anticipated payment methods, regulatory changes, and volume assumptions. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor´s degree in Accounting or Finance is required. Master´s degree in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred. Eight (8) years of experience in the healthcare industry is required, to include three (3) years supervisory. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred. Previous experience specific to the position or department is preferred. Provides support to management via monthly financial reports, benchmarking, preparing Pro formas, measuring success of implemented projects. Acts as liaison to other departments in the organization. Oversees and reviews calculations of Contractual Allowance and Bad Debt Reserves, utilizing appropriate revenue cycle analytics tools. Reviews Ascension required reports for Accounts Receivable Valuation. Performs Managed Care contracting analysis. 9. Monitors and analyzes monthly operating results against budget and trends. Analyzes actual performance versus productivity targets. Compiles and summarizes capital spending by discrete project. Creates forward-looking financial models, interpret results, makes recommendations. Complies with Ascension health reporting requirements. Updates strategic and financial plans, as needed. 10. Oversees/ensures the integrity of the data in the system. Understands spreadsheets, databases, and internal general ledger/support systems. 11. Assists in development of physician compensation plans that incentivize productivity and efficiency. Monitors performance against plans and ensures accuracy in payouts per the plan. 12. Responsible for identifying requirements for pro forma and financial analysis and schedules with Financial Planning.
