DCMC Child life Responsibilities 1. Demonstrates, maintains, and directs a variety of skills regarding children during hospitalization or in ambulatory settings. 2. Collaborates with other health care professional in developing care plans for the psychosocial and emotional states for the child and family 3. Contributes to departmental projects, program, meetings, documentation and tracking outcome measures for self and department. 4. Maintains professional knowledge and skills. 5. Contributes to the efficient daily operation of the department, exemplifying excellent customer relations toward visitors, staff and coworkers, treating each person with respect and dignity without respect to position or power. 6. Orients, supervises and evaluates the work of volunteers. Supervises Child Life Assistant in work area. 7. Performs other duties as assigned by Director. Minimum Qualifications Completion of a 480 hour Child Life Internship is required. Bachelors or masters degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Child Life, or related field is required. Child Life Specialist Certification exam eligible is required. Child Life Specialist Certification preferred within two (2) years of hire date. Skills 1. Ability in establishing therapeutic relationships with children and/or their families. 2. Ability to a. Asses patient/family psychosocial and developmental strengths and risks, B. Plan goals, C. Implement interventions, and D. Evaluate effectiveness of assessment, plans and interventions.3. Ability to facilitate a variety of group and individual play and activities that promote development, self-expression, and mastery.4. Ability to provide constant attention to patients and families determining their needs, monitoring their behavior and providing necessary support up to eighty percent of work day. 5. Advanced documentation and written communication skills, usually acquired through internship and nine to twelve months on the job training. 6. Basic supervisory skills. 7. Strong multi-cultural skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and staff. 8. Strong time management and organization skills. 9. Skills in working as part of the health care team. 10. Knowledge of community resources available for children´s development/emotional therapy and/or support. 11. Prefer one year of experience working with programs addressing children´s emotional, social, and educational development. 12. Physical stamina, high energy, sensory acuity and clear speech are essential. Congenial, creative, enthusiastic and enjoy interacting with infants, children, and teenagers. 13. Bilingual competence preferred.
