Detailed Position Description Insures hospital case-mix index and severity profiles are accurate by performing Documentation Improvement program activities. Works collaboratively with Medical, Nursing, ancillary staff and Case Managers to improve the quality of chart documentation and to accurately reflect a patients severity of illness and risk of mortality. Meets operational standards Insures appropriate DRG, SOE and ROM (APR-DRG) assignment. Performs other duties as assigned Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients/customers. Displays commitment to the mission of the hospital and its values. Position Requirements 3-5 years ICD-9-CM coding experience, preferably in a large, academic medical center. Thorough, up-to-date clinical skills, current working knowledge of pathology, pharmacology, surgical procedures, etc. Experience in working directly with physicians. Utilization Review/Management experience strongly preferred. Assertive personality and team player, dependable, aptitude for accuracy, detail and organization skills, PC and encoder experience. Position will need to work independently and have strong time-management skills. Education Requirements Bachelors degree or Associates in health related field with commensurate experience.
