The Medical Support Assistant is assigned to Primary and Ambulatory Care service located at the Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center and Nursing Home in one of various specialty clinics whose purpose is to perform receptionist, record keeping, eligibility determination for care, and other clerical support functions related to the care, and out-processing of outpatients and guest. The Medical Support Assistant functions include reception, telephone triage, outpatient processing, travel, eligibility, scheduling, and filing. Personally greets patients and visitors in person or telephonically while responding to their inquiries with care and compassion. Receives new and recurring application for care, making determination as to the patient´s eligibility for benefits. The Medical Support Assistant will follow the hospital computer software program protocol for check-in of schedule patients to initiate the clinic visit process, maintaining patient´s record electronically and paper according to regulation, entering and/or retrieval of information into the computer system for reporting purpose. Serves as the focal point of administrative activities in a specific clinic as such will be responsible for understanding the clinical programs goals and being an integral member of that program. Answer patient questions regarding the program, processes, scheduling, etc., and can be cross-trained to fill in one or more clinical areas and become familiar with clinical goals of back-up assignments.
