An entry level position under direct supervision of the CSP Supervisor or a CSP Tech that performs cleaning, decontamination, assembly, wrapping or containerization, sterilization, biological monitoring, quality assurance and distribution of reusable instrument trays and equipment throughout KSMC Medical Center, Ambulatory Surgicenters and outpatient medical/dental clinics.Essential Functions:- Clean, decontaminate, inspect and track reusable instrumentation.- Observe decontamination policies and procedures.- Utilize personal protective equipment where appropriate.- Review, assemble, and package instrumentation singles/trays in preparation for sterilization.- Sterilize items according to product requirements to include compliance with all ETO, Sterrad and Steam regulatory and safety requirements.- Monitor parameters on all equipment.Secondary Functions:- Collect and or receive from the Medical Center and/or outpatient clinics unused reusable instruments and equipment for decontamination and processing.- Perform quality assurance, documentation and quality control activities on all instrumentation, equipment and biological testing appropriately to CSP policies and procedures.- Consistently demonstrate excellent customer service in a health care environment.- Apply knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.Basic Qualifications:- Certification of completion from a formal Central Sterile Processing Technology course and/or equivalent experience.- Ability to pass competency based orientation specific to CSP within designated timelines.- Able to work with indirect supervision for each competency level passed successfully.- Able to stoop, bend, push, pull repetitively the full duration of shift.- Able to lift 65 pounds and carry a distance of 100 feet or less for the full duration of shift.- Able to push or pull a cart weighing up to 350 pounds.- Demonstrated effective English communication skills, both oral and written.- Demonstrate adaptability to changes in the work environment and related assignments.- Commitment to task.- Must be able to negotiate with multiple levels of staff.- Demonstrate conflict/problem resolution skills.- Demonstrate effective time management.- Willingness to upgrade skills as required.

Responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and stocking supplies & instruments. Position Qualifications:Must demonstrate basic knowledge of sterilization & decontamination equipment. Basic knowledge of arithmetic is required. Must have demonstrated accuracy in checking, posting and counting, plus must be able to identify numerous pieces of surgical instruments/ equipment. Must be able to demonstrate the cleaning and sterilization method that is appropriate. High school diploma or GED certification required. Must demonstrate competencies of 6-month training (Processing Tech). Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must be able to work independently. Must have ability to lift & move 50 lbs. Certification as a SPD Technician by a recognized certification agency is required within 18 months from date of hire. Failure to obtain certification within 18 months will result in termination from this position. Must demonstrate professionalism, dedication, communication, productivity, and quality improvement initiatives in daily activities.Individual will be expected to consistently meet performance standards such as accuracy and timely assembly of sets, good attendance, teamwork, and most importantly, excellent customer service skills. The Sterile Processing Technician II functions within sterile processing to process instruments, equipment and supplies for utilization in the operating room, in-house departments and clinics; this includes appropriate record keeping and distribution. Observes all rules and regulations governing processing standards of practice regarding all methods of sterilization and processing. Works independently with minimal supervision. Demonstrates ability to handle multiple tasks and resolve many issues at one time.Training/Experience: Qualifications: 1.) Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. 2.) License/Certification: CRCST or equivalent required. Completes annual education CEU hours to maintain CRSCT status. 3.) DCMC Sterile Processing Dept Responsibilities 1. Functions independently and effectively in all areas of processing. 2. Trouble shoot and problem solve utilizing appropriate resources. 3. Function as a preceptor. 4. Extensive knowledge and skill related to routine and complex instruments and equipment. 5. Able to provide substitutions to meet customer needs. 6. Communicate and collaborate with shift leader and supervisor to ensure customer needs are met. 7. Anticipate customer needs and ensures those needs are met. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is required. Two (2) years of progressive experience in processing is required. Certification as CSPDT (CBSPD), CSIT (CBSPD) or CRCST (IAHCSMM) preferred. Skills Successful completion of Tech I and II competencies is required. Position Summary: The incumbent in this position is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following the established infection control practices. This incumbent is also responsible to preparing surgical case carts. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital´s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.Required Education/Training: High School graduate or equivalent (GED). Nationally recognized Sterile Processing Certification is required within six months of hire. Required Experience: Minimum of one year of experience as a sterile processing technician.
