Manage the department’s Clinical Information Systems with the main focus on the Core Anatomic Pathology LIS system, CoPathPlus and its integration with other Systems.
General Purpose: Under the general direction of the Pathology´s Informatics leadership, with latitude for exercising discretion and independent judgment, manage the departments Clinical Information Systems with the main focus on the Core Anatomic Pathology LIS system, CoPathPlus and its integration with other Systems including Dictation system, RTSE, Whole Slide Imaging, etc. Responsible for project management, interaction with other departments and external entities, off hours support via pager.Position Description:Maintain system operation and functionality* Trouble shoot system errors throughout the day and after hours, including assessing the nature of the error and its most likely source, and mobilizing the necessary resources (typically other professional level employees within ITS) and assigning tasks to other staff to expeditiously correct the problem* Provide 24-hour a day, 7 days a week support of the Clinical Information SystemWorkflow Design and Project Management* With a thorough understanding of specimen workflow and final report generation as related to a pathology department, recommends and assists in the implementation of system enhancements* Work with other managers in the department (specifically Histology, Transcription, Cytology, Quality Assurance, and Autopsy Managers, as well as Billing Professionals and Outreach Coordinators) to oversee and manage the planning, development, and implementation of new software solutionsPerform routine system maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly)* Verifies backup procedures* Monitors error logs and corrects errors* Monitors fax servers and resolves errors* Monitors incoming and outgoing interfaces and resolves errors* Identifies and resolves non-routine duplicate patient entries* Manage Whole Slide Image upload and integration with Clinical SystemsManage System security and system access* Provides user access enforcing departmental access policies* Ensures patient confidentiality through appropriate level of system user access and enforces confidentiality signed statement policy* Monitors usage of the system and activity of user accountsData analysis and database monitoring* Provides reports and reporting tools for departmental administration use to analyze practice trends* Analyze and evaluate workflow and recommends/enacts modifications in the computer system to maximize efficiency of clinical activities* Schedules and coordinates upgrade implementations* Debug and test system modificationsDictionary Building* Enters new and edits existing entries in the systems dictionaries* In conjunction with clinical managers ensures that entries are accurate and up to date.User Training* Provides user training for upgrades and enhancements to the Clinical System* Develops training materials and conducts training sessions* Understand Regulatory Process and Maintain Compliance* Monitors and documents system functionality based on the guidelines of the College of American Pathologists (CAP)* Maintains the ITS Units Policy and Procedure Manual, writing new policies as needed to address changing accreditation requirements.Qualifications: * Bachelor´s Degree and two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.* Understanding of Anatomic Pathology practice and the workflow in an AP Lab obtained through at least one year of full time experience in a Pathology department (or equivalent).* Familiarity with major operating systems (Mac, Windows). * Familiarity with databases, understanding of Structured Query Language (SQL) and other data.* Manipulation and reporting techniques essential to Systems Management* Familiarity with Digital Images, digital imaging management, and whole slide imaging technology.Preferred: * Strong knowledge of SQL* Hands on experience with CoPathPlus* Practical experience with digital image management and whole slide imaging.We invite you to discover the excitement, diversity, rewards and excellence of a career at Yale University.
