Housekeeping Manager

The Manager of Building Services reports to the Director of Building Services. Responsible for the planning, organization, development and direction for the overall operation of the Building Services Department. All department functions and operations must be managed and achieved in accordance with all JCAHO and federal, state, and local standards and guidelines to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times. Must be able to workOn-call hrs. And weekends as needed. Experience - High School Diploma Required. Bachelor degree desired but not required. Must have experience as a manager or director of Housekeeping and Linen Department. This person must be knowledgeable with linen distribution, inventories and par levels. Must be knowledgeable of scheduling, payroll management, and supply ordering, inventory and productivity and budgeting experience mandatory. Must be effectively able to communicate both written and orally.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A minimum of 5 yrs. Environmental Services experience required. A minimum of 5yrs. Experience in a Hospital Setting is required. Knowledge of JCAHO, OSHA, and Infection Control guidelines is required.Must possess strong leadership skills and willingness to work harmoniously within a team environment. Must be adept at leading professional and non-professional personnel. Good human relation skills, strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively deal with people at different organizational levels both inside and outside the hospital. Must have well developed problem solving skills and ability to develop conceptual alternatives. Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing Building Services practices.

Under the direction of the Environmental Services Director, the Supervisor has the following duties and responsibilities: supervises the planning of the departments employees in maintaining the upkeep of cleanliness, order and appearance of the medical center and its properties in both public and patient care areas; will ensure that established housekeeping care is provided to achieve the objectives of the medical center; maintains the departments organization structure, assigns responsibility and delegates authority, analyzes and evaluates housekeeping personnel, provides opportunity for growth and development of personnel, as well as provide means of continuing education for all personnel, complies with established standards as assigned by JCAHO, CDC, OSHA, and other federal agencies as may be required. Qualifications Knowledge and Ability: Three years experience required in the environmental field. Five years Housekeeping Supervisory experience preferred with excellent verbal and record keeping skills required.Education/Experience: High School Graduate, certified in Housekeeping Management preferred, International Housekeepers Association. College courses in management preferred.Physical Requirements: Physical Ability Category 3 (PA3). Work is performed in well-lighted, well ventilated, pleasant surrounding. May be exposed to weather while traveling on the medical campus. Extensive walking and standing.

Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer, Environmental Management Service (EMS), shares in a full management relationship with the Chief, EMS. The incumbent is responsible for integrating short, intermediate, and long-range planning that meets the changing dynamics of a highly active, affiliated medical center complex. The incumbent must exercise broad managerial leadership, knowledge, program and technical expertise within the various disciplines of the Service. Incumbent seeks solutions to existing and future challenges, identifies long and short range goals, and formulates proposals relating to environmental healthcare services. Incumbent plans and initiates changes and other improvements or actions after review and approval of Chief, EMS. Incumbent serves as advisor and consultant to Chief, EMS with responsibility for implementing and maintaining an effective and efficient environmental sanitation program, a furniture handling program, a cost efficient laundry, linen, uniform operation, waste management (Regulated Medical Waste and Solid Waste), integrated pest management, and recycling programs. Incumbent will assume all duties and responsibilities delegated by the Chief, EMS. In addition to staff support to Chief, EMS, Incumbent will be involved and play an active role in a wide area of medical center issues and concerns regarding medical center policies, issues, planning and challenges. Incumbent is expected to serve on local, VISN and National Task Forces and Committees representing EMS and healthcare environmental issues. Incumbent is responsible for formulating program policy and plans, organizes, directs staffs, budgets, and coordinates a comprehensive EMS program for this tertiary care, affiliated, research and active medical center. Incumbent has responsibility for assisting and advising the Chief, EMS in making decisions and actions that have substantial impact on program objectives, goals, funding, scheduling, organizational structure and allocation of resources.
