Borgess Medical center is accepting applications for a Transfusion Safety Officer.
The Transfusion Safety Officer (TSO) will act as a liaison within the Medical Center to ensure that blood management and transfusion related activities are conducted in the safest possible manner and meet or exceed all existing safety and regulatory requirements. In addition, this individual will support the goals of the Medical Center to establish and achieve identified outcomes. The TSO is also accountable for adhering to the standards set by regulatory agencies such as but not limited to the Joint Commission, Conditions of Participation of Healthcare Finance Administration (HCFA), and Michigan Occupational Health and Safety (MIOSHA). These accountabilities require individual competence in nursing practice, and the recognition and responsible acceptance of individual actions and judgments. Minimum BSN required. MSN preferred. Three to five years recent experience in Nursing. Thorough knowledge of transfusion practices and related issues. Previous management or supervisory experience or a demonstrated interest in supervisory responsibilities preferred. Demonstrated leadership skills. Proven analytic and problem solving skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and demonstrated ability to work independently. Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills, decision making, written and verbal communication, customer service orientation and ability to relate well to others. Ability to educate effectively. Solid computer skills and knowledge of word processing. Normal exposure to office and clinical environment noise, dust and temperature. Potential exposure to patients with communicable disease. Potential exposure to radiation, chemotherapeutic and toxic agents.

Overview: An exempt position responsible for providing information regarding Occupational Medicine services to employers / payers (insurance companies, health plans) through personal selling activities, resulting in increased number of customers, contracts, and revenues. Acts as a liaison between current customers and the medical practice. Continually seeks additional referral sources. Responsibilities: Arranges meetings with key representatives of employers to market services the medical practices services. Maintains and documents contact with employers to analyze needs and satisfaction. Reviews employer member profiles to identify potential for increasing volume of services provided by medical practice. Manages and maintains new and existing customer database by size, product, contact person, etc. Coordinates referrals for services. Proposes program specific policies and procedures consistent with System policies. Collaborates with System services such as Patients Access, Patient Financial Services, and Health Information Management to assure appropriate patient documentation capture and flow. Recommends changes in fess schedules as appropriate. Coordinates services with System ancillary departments such as the Laboratory, Imaging, Rehab, etc. to enhance services to clients. Maintains current knowledge in legislative issues impacting services such as Workers Compensation, Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor“s degree in marketing, business, or health administrationMinimum three years of sales experience in sales, marketing, public relations in the health care industry, with specific experience in workers compensation and/or occupational medicine.
