Responsible for the planning, budgeting, staffing and other management functions of the Moffitt Cancer Registry Department; for providing leadership in ensuring Moffitt Cancer Center maintains approval by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACOS/COC); for directing activities of the Cancer Registry to maintain compliance with ACOS/COC and the Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS) standards; to ensure data are collected and available in support of Moffitt Cancer Centers goals and initiatives, especially provision of data to the Total Cancer Care Data Warehouse; for managing the confidential Cancer Registry database in a manner consistent with privacy and human subjects requirements; for designing and implementing modifications and innovations in computer applications and procedures to keep pace with changing requirements and technological advances; for generation of annual reports based on Cancer Registry data; for responding to requests for data and general cancer management information; and to create and maintain an environment conducive to productive and satisfied employees.Education: Minimum of an associate degree in business or related field; bachelor degree preferred. Certification by the National Cancer Registrars Association is an essential requirement. Training/Experience: A minimum of three (3) years management experience in a hospital or research environment with at least three (4) years experience in a Cancer Registry. Experience with computerized network cancer registry database preferred; experience in working with quality control processes helpful.

Place multiple physician office telephone calls or visits in an effort to obtain outside treatment information to complete the abstract. Assist in preparation of data and reports generated by the Cancer Registry. Maintains a basic understanding of the work flow in the Health Information Management Department. Informs supervisor of backlogs. Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or individual with equal qualifications possessing extensive knowledge of medical terminology, oncology terminology, anatomy, and physiology, diagnostic procedures, disease processes, staging and treatment. Basic knowledge of ICD-O or comparable coding system. Computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows operating system.

Responsible for abstracting demographic, cancer management and survival information from patients medical records and other sources accurately into the Cancer Registry database.Education: High school diploma required; course work in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology or equivalent experience in allied health field required. Degree in allied health field preferred. Training/Experience: Must be a certified cancer registrar (CTR); minimum three (3) years cancer registry abstracting experience in a CoC approved program; or a minimum of one (1) year cancer registry abstracting experience as a CTR in Moffitt Cancer Center cancer registry; experience working with a computerized cancer registry database required; experience in a research facility preferred.
