As a member of the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service, you´ll enjoy a challenging and rewarding opportunity to provide the support needed to care for those who have served our veterans.You*ll be serving as a technician performing a variety of diagnostic histology preparations and analyzing abnormal results, using state-of-the-art equipment and performing routine maintenance on that equipment. You´ll establish and monitor quality control programs, resolve and troubleshoot technical equipment problems and maintain instrument availability.You will also clean and disinfect instruments, tables, and rooms, identify and prepare bodies for dissection and prepare bodies for transfer to funeral homes. You´ll maintain inventory for Histology, Cytology, and the Morgue, while adhering to established safety and infection control guidelines.One or more years of experience is preferred or a substitution of one full year of graduate work leading to a Masters Degree or, a combination of both. Currently, we have an opening for a Histology Technician Evening shift. Our Histology Technician staff performs all moderate and highly complex histologic procedures to provide the pathologist with slides for microscopic examination and interpretation in the treatment and diagnosis of disease. The candidate must maintain the technical skills and knowledge necessary to complete tasks efficiently and accurately. The areas of routine responsibility includes: - processing tissues- embedding- microtomy- preparing/staining slides- performing special stains (both manual and automated- related clerical activitiesThis high-volume, state of the art laboratory utilizes the latest technology and instrumentation required to set the new standard for patient care and satisfaction. Performs routine and specialized chemical microscopic, immunologic, hematologic, immunohematologic and microbiologic tests to provide data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Analyzes body fluids, cells and products to identify abnormal and critical disorders associated with disease processes. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital´s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.Required Education/Training: Bachelors Degree in chemistry, biology, basic sciences or medical laboratory science AND Graduate of an approved program in medical laboratory science OR. ASCP or NCA certification required or AMT, ABHI Histocompatibility or HHS or HEW certification required. Medical Technology school graduates eligible to sit for ASCP or NCA exam will be expected to pass certification exam within twelve monthsRequired Experience: Prefer minimum of one year of experience in any area of the laboratory.
