No third party considerations will be accepted at this time. Vendors please do not call HR directly to solicit. Position Summary Overview: Provide leadership and operation of the virology laboratory. Coordinate, supervise and manage section activities to ensure high quality laboratory services and testing are provided to patients. Responsibilities: Manage the performance of routine and complex procedures; recognize and solve administrative/operational problems; review worksheets and pending logs; monitor workflow, turn-around-times and other performance metrics, making adjustments to assignments as needed; perform workload and workstation analysis; develop new methodologies and procedures; liaison with other sections, departments, physicians, nursing personnel, vendors and others; participate on work teams, focus groups for new initiatives or projects; communicate and collaborate regarding operational issues and future needs; perform research and special projects. Oversee and review QC; oversee proficiency testing and resolve issues; develop and maintain a competency assessment program; oversee instrument maintenance and troubleshooting; perform instrument evaluations; write, revise and review technical procedures/Lucidoc; review event tracking entries and develop/implement action plans ensuring QA review delineates the cause of errors and events attributed to lack of understanding or technical knowledge, poorly defined policies and procedures; assist in defining and implementing educational interventions and competency assessments addressing needs; develop/monitor performance improvement initiatives; reconcile customer complaints; ensure regulatory compliance (CAP, CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, JCAHO). Interview, select and orient new employees implement a training and competency program for employees (new hires, existing employees, and those requiring retraining); maintain documentation of staff participation and outcomes from training and competency assessment and follow up on training and competency failures; prepare staffing schedules; monitor attendance, tardiness and payroll; mentor, coach, counsel and identify and mentor staff interested in advancement and job enrichment; perform assessments for staffing levels; monitor and maintain positive work climate and coordinate activities to address issues as they arise or are identified by staff feedback, surveys and turnover rates. Maintain integrity of system, file maintenance, report, label and collection list printing; resolve worksheet and printer problems in section; manage section participation and representation in computer upgrade projects and implementation teams; validate functionality and calculations; ensure data integrity of reports. Coordinate/support continuing education programs. Maintain supply inventory; monitor supply expenses and usage of consumables staying within budget; monitor financial performance with goal of meeting budget targets; collect and submit data for preparation of annual capital operating budgets; prepare justification for new instrumentation; prepare cost analyses for new procedures and evaluate existing procedures; monitor overtime expenses and provide overtime justifications. Facilitate computer operations. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of laboratory operations, multiple/varied clinical instrumentation and equipment, and virology cell culture, antigen detection and nucleic acid detection techniques, procedures and principles required. The ability to operate a personal computer, think independently, resolve problems and make decisions based on an in-depth knowledge of laboratory techniques, principles, instruments and their interrelationships required. Good communication, people, and customer service skills required, especially in resolving problems and conflicts. Education, Licensure and Experience: BS degree in a science field with a minimum of four (4) years supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory under the direction of a qualified director required. Certification by ASCP or NCA desirable.
