JOB DESCRIPTION: Directs technical functions in laboratory disciplines or functional areas. Provides leadership to technical and support staff and customer service in areas of responsibility. Coordinates technical functions with other technical coordinators, lab managers and other hospital departments. Assists in developing policies/procedures, and identifies capital equipment needs. Assists in preparing salary and non-salary budget projections and ensuring all activities comply with established departmental, hospital, and regulatory guidelines. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor´s degree in medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological science. Certification by one of the following accreditation agencies: MT (ASCP), HTL (ASCP), CT (ASCP) or categorical (ASCP), MT (HEW), MT (HHS), MT (AMT), MT (NCA), CHT (ABHI), CHS (ABHI). Five years of medical technology experience which must include four years in a supervisory capacity. EDUCATION EXCEPTION: A bachelor´s degree may be waived for a medical technologist who was MT (ASCP) certified in the years prior to the bachelors degree requirement by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.Preferred Qualifications:A doctoral, masters, or bachelors degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; and have at least three years of laboratory training or experience in human immunogenetics, human histocompatibility and/or human transplantation immunology testing under the supervision of a director and/or technical supervisor of an ASHI-accredited or an equivalent ARB approved laboratory. Credentialing by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics as a Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) or Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) certification is strongly recommended. Addendum to Job Description *CDC tests Flow Cytometric assays Molecular tests Luminex assays*The technologist position will include performing HLA typing by serological and molecular based (low and high resolution) assays as well as performing flow cytometric based testing for cross match studies and antibody identification for pre transplant workups. Molecular studies for transplant engraftment and post transplant monitoring studies for post transplant support. Since Emory is a teaching institution there are ample opportunities for continuing education with regularly scheduled transplant conferences on a broad variety of topics. May need to come in occasionally on weekends or shifts.
