Position Summary Overview: Plan, evaluate, organize and implement occupational therapy treatment programs in a developmentally and age appropriate manner for patients (0 - adulthood). Responsibilities: Complete patient evaluations and reassessments. Develop an individualized plan of care based upon evaluation/reassessment findings. In collaboration with patient and family, develop measurable long term and short term goals. Perform patient care and related activities (demonstrating basic clinical competencies) while meeting productivity/time management. Participate in ongoing communication and collaboration with other members of the patient´s interdisciplinary care team and coordinate treatment plan with all parties involved in the patient´s care. Monitor patient response to treatment intervention. Recommend appropriate adaptive equipment. Design and fabricate orthotic equipment and adaptive devices. Recommend termination of treatment when appropriate. Assess patient and family needs regarding their level of understanding, ability to assimilate information and the most desirable method of teaching. Provide accurate and thorough information to patients and families concerning their participation in the patient´s continuity of care. Assess patient and family´s understanding of, cooperation with and participation in their own care. Develop and instruct patient and family in appropriate home treatment program. Document information in patient´s medical record. Assist in patient billing process. Plan, coordinate and present at least one educational in-service per year to departmental staff in addition to those scheduled post-workshop training. Provide student development through mentoring at least forty hours for observation student(s) per year. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge and understanding of acute rehabilitative care pediatric occupational therapy developmentally appropriate for children ages 0 - adulthood. Successful demonstration of the professional fundamental competencies, the ability to be articulate, courteous and supportive in dealing with hospital, administrative and departmental personnel, patients and parents with ability to honor confidentiality; to independently treat patients by developing and following the established therapy plan of care; demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills; utilize basic office equipment such as fax, xerox and PC. Education, Experience and License: Degree in Occupational Therapy; current Texas State license to practice occupational therapy (a temporary license is acceptable contingent upon permanent license obtained prior to temporary expiration date). Current basic life support certification is preferred.

A Sample of Duties/ResponsibilitiesEvaluates patients, establishes treatment goals/outcomes and implements patient care plan. Observes precautions, indications and contraindications for all treatment procedures. Monitors progress of patient, re-establishes goals and revises treatment plan according to protocol. Will utilize proper body mechanics for personal and patient safety. Will demonstrate the ability to safely lift, transfer and mobilize patients and equipment. Participates in mandatory departmental and hospital-wide in-services including safety and rehabilitation equipment review. Documents findings in the patient medical record according to department and hospital policy. Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
