Administers treatments and physical agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.POSITION REQUIREMENTS1. Education: Graduate of an approved school of Physical Therapy or graduate of accredited college or university with a certificate in Physical Therapy.2. Certification: Current State of Alaska license required. Current CPR card required.3. Experience: For inpatient/LTCU position, acute care, home health and geriatrics experience preferred; for outpatient position, sports medicine and ortho experience preferred. Will consider new graduates. Must demonstrate good body mechanics. Must be able to meet the age-specific needs of the patients served by the department.4. Interpersonal: The ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with staff, physicians, volunteers and patients is required.5. Physical: Must have ability to: tolerate long periods of sitting, walking or standing; read computer screen text; communicate verbally with individuals in person or on the telephone; read and write text; and solve complex problems. Must be able to assist others in moving, lifting and positioning patients weighing up to 200 pounds up to 15 times per day.ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Directs the physical therapy department certified staff, including physical therapy assistants and physical therapy aides and restorative CNAs.- Observes and evaluates treatment affect. Recommends change to physician, if needed. - Performs an appropriate assessment on each patient, as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population. - Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching, as appropriate.- Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of physical therapy modalities.- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies aand addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family. - Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety. - Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. - Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administrative team. - Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients´ needs are met and hospital policy is followed. - Maintains records pertinent to the personnel and operation of the department. - Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. - Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. - Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities. - Participates in performance improvement activities for the department and organizational TQM/PI/QA activities. - Meets current documentation standards and policies. - Participates in educational staff performance improvement inservices. Assists with orientation and inservice training for certified department staff members. Participates in guidance and educational programs. - Provides evaluation of certified staff, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating and terminating. - Coordinates, delegates and supervises responsibilities assigned to supportive staff (RCNA, PTA, PTLA, etc.) - Provides input in formulating budget, assists in evaluating department performance versus budget controls and takes appropriate action to remain within budget guidelines. - Ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.Participates in infection control, departmental equipment training and organizational safety and fire safety programs.

These may be inpatients in acute care or transitional care (SNF), Home Health or Outpatients. Assists patients to obtain maximum performance and function in society while learning to live a routine normal life within the constraints of their disability.POSITION REQUIREMENTS1.Education:Holds a Masters Degree from an approved college or school of Speech/Language Pathology. 2.Certification:Current state licensure in speech pathology (as Speech Pathologist). Current CPR card required.3.Experience:Knowledge of principles and practice of Speech Pathology. Performance of technical skills related to Speech Pathology. Treats patients in accordance with speech/language pathology standards of care and practice. -Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious or spiritual needs of patients and family. -Confers with the individuals most closely associated with the patient and keeps them informed on patient. -Treats patients of all ages (i.e., pediatric to geriatric), race, gender and disability without bias. -Performs examinations such as swallowing examinations accurately and communicates results in a timely manner to all appropriate members of the health care team. -Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.-Intercedes for the patient, when dietary revisions are necessary to prevent aspiration. -Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients needs are met and hospital policy is followed. -Maintains records pertinent to the personnel and operation of the department. -Provides information related to departmental budget considerations associated with speech pathology needs for optimum patient care and services. -Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. -Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. -Consults other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities. -Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administrative team. -Participates and maintains performance improvement activities for the department. Completes competency assessments related to personal performance. Participates in PI activities. -Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding departmental operations, hospital fire, safety and infection control. Maintains medical staff rules/requirements, as well as regulatory body standards.-Participates in departmental education on performance improvement. Attends departmental orientation and inservice training for department staff members. Participates in guidance and educational programs.

We are currently searching for Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist to join our established team - a $5,000 sign-on bonus available for qualified applicants. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to provide therapeutic recreational and expressive therapy services to patients by serving as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and supporting the facility’s treatment program. Requirements This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Recreational or Occupational Therapy, Psychology or related field. CTRS is required. A minimum of one year of activity or recreational therapy is preferred. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of expressive arts, recreational therapy theory, and adventure challenge based experience with the ability to apply its principles in a psychiatric setting. Knowledge of a variety of treatment modalities and treatment of both individuals and families is strongly preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to problem solve, and the ability to work as a team and with a diverse population is a must.
