Our full-service medical laboratory serves inpatients, outpatients and off-site laboratory referrals of all ages (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric)adding-up to 1.5 million tests annually (with 30% Outreach). State-of-the-art testing in performed in such disciplines as pathology, blood bank, hematology/coagulation, serology, chemistry and microbiology. The lab is accredited by the College of American Pathologists.Demonstrated knowledge of age-specific: growth, development, and interpretation of data. Possesses skills/knowledge to perform treatments (i.e. medications, equipment, age-appropriate communication skills, etc.). Involves family and/or significant other in plan of care. Performs quantitative, qualitative and subjective lab procedures by manual and automated methods in accordance with the instructions in the technical procedures manuals.- Performs limited complex testing as evidenced by audit and documentation.- Performs lab procedures in an accurate and efficient manner following current technical procedure, verifies results according to the department protocol as evidenced by audit. Learns and adapts to new policies, procedures and methodologies in a timely manner.- Recognizes problems and assists in seeking solutions; refers major problems to the technical specialist.- Maintains adequate levels of supplies and reagents; notified appropriate person to reorder as required. Practices cost-containment by eliminating careless mistakes and unnecessary repeats.- Demonstrates teamwork, initiative flexibility in covering other shifts/areas as needed.- Supports laboratory safety compliance objectives.Follows quality control procedures established within the department - tests designated control materials according to protocol, documents results. Implements corrective action within department guidelines. Checks and records lot number and expiration dates of reagents, standards, and controls. Processes specimens, organizes workload, and performs computer functions in accordance with departmental procedures.- Ensures that specimens meet requirements for specified test.- Calls-up necessary worksheets, logs and reports to provide for effective work flow and processing of pending work.- Accurately enters data into LIS.- Expedites STAT requests and works well under pressure.- Assists in troubleshooting and resolving specimen integrity problems and refers to the appropriate person as demonstrated by observation and documentation.Assists Section Head with major projects and data collection.Education Required: Bachelor´s Degree in Science with national certification (Medical Technology, Microbiology), or five years of successful work as an MLT generalist conducting competent work in any the following laboratory settings: Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Microbiology.Experience with computer programming.Minimum Field of Expertise Preferred: MT-(ASCP) or equivalentExperience Preferred: 2+ years.
