Physician Assistant (PA) in the Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs (RRTP) is a trained professional supporting the primary mission of the Service. The PA practices within a clearly outlined Scope of Practice under a licensed supervising physician. The PA must have a current licensure and certification. The PA has a responsibility for providing care to patients in the Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program. The PA is responsible to contribute to the achievement of quality of care standards, efficiency, process improvement and patient satisfaction within the RRTP. The PA is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to a service of excellence. The PA will report to the Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health for clinical and administrative issues. The PA will demonstrate advanced competencies and skills in assessing the physical and psychosocial status of patients, families and groups. Education or Training. You must meet one of the following (attach proof): (2) A bachelor´s degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); or (3) Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor´s degree in a health care occupation or a health-related science; or (4) Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years. (5) Certification. As of March 12, 1993, certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement for employment. This requirement does not apply to non-certified PA´s on VA rolls as of that date.
