Schedule: Monday - Friday - 40 hours per week to be scheduled within the following ranges and with potential for a rotating schedule, including some weekends: Monday and Tuesday - 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM - 8 hour shift to be scheduled within this range. Wednesday -Friday - 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.*This position will travel to other locations from time to time.*Purpose of Job:To provide the finest care and services possible to the membership served in the Vision Essential. In addition, Regional leaders are accountable for communication, implementation, enforcement, monitoring and oversight of compliance policies and practices in their departments. Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.Duties and Responsibilities1. Determines patient’s cosmetic needs and price of eyewear according to patient’s Health plan. Assists member in the selection of the their eyewear to conform to prescription specifications; advises and recommends the various lens style and any options available that will enhance the member’s desired application for their new eyewear, size considerations, and style applications in accordance with the member’s personal preference.2. Inspects and verifies the accuracy of incoming orders from production to assure compliance with national and Kaiser Permanente standards3. Delivers completed order to the intended wearer by bending the frame material using specialized tools and equipment. Verifies exact fitting characteristics of the completed order to comply with prescription requirements and member comfort expectations.4. Assists supervisor in tracking product activity regarding ordering, receiving, usage, and requirements for items for inventory and supplies required for member care and service. Recommends changes in product offerings, inventory levels of products carried, new products, and/or services that the membership is asking about regarding their eyewear.5. Performs operation of and routine maintenance/repair of precision grinding equipment used to produce in-house eyewear to assure accurate and quality output from laboratory.6. Monitors and takes corrective action regarding the physical condition of the department by ensuring that frames on display are clean, properly labeled, and properly adjusted; that displays are clean, in good repair, and neat; that mirrors are clean and well lighted, organized, and conductive to smooth patient flow. Performs routine housekeeping functions as necessary to assure compliance to all factors listed.7. Answers member questions regarding visual health care, the use of eyewear, lens and/or frame products available, low vision aids, and other services available within the department. Addresses questions regarding optometry services and appointment availability within the department. Refers questions outside of department to the appropriate party in the facility or organization as necessary.8. Assists the optometrist in the instruction of members regarding the care and handling of contact lenses. Provides individual instruction and assistance as directed by the optometrist in the member’s eye care and eyewear requirements.9. Performs reception, check-in, cashiering, screening, and notification functions as required for expediting patient care and reducing waiting time for the membership being served.10. Attains Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic Optical Services sales goals and complies with all cash handling procedures and policies completely.11. Performs other related duties as assigned.12. Is available as floater to other locations as needed.Minimum QualificationsExperience:- Two years of experience as a dispensing optician required.- General knowledge of optical theory, optical practice and national standards for accuracy, and quality required- Effective written and oral communication skills required.- Computer experience preferred.- One year of hand-on experience in a full service (in-house grinding capable) optical operation involving heavy patient traffic required.- Experience in all aspect of dispensing prescription eyewear required.- Ability to fit and adjust the completed eyewear to the level expected by the wearer required.- Knowledge of production and manufacturing techniques for Rx orders from raw materials required.- Knowledge of the applicable system’s daily operation requirements required.Education and Training- High School Graduate or GED required.- Graduation from an accredited course of academic study in the equivalent of six months required.License, Certifications, Other Credentials- DC, Maryland, or Virginia Optician License in good standing with the State Board required.- Contact Lens Certification and/or licensing preferred.- ABO certification in good standing required for new hires or obtained within one year of hire.- ABO certification in good standing required or obtained NLT December 31, 2010 for current employees.

Participates in career development. 2. Coordinates personnel issues to include but not limited to staffing at centers for leave and conflict resolution. Provides hands on support and guides staff through delegation of tasks, staff assignments and performance review. 3. Trains and educates staff regarding approved policies and procedures, SITUS, POSS system, and all OSHA requirements. 4. Ensures that all reports are completed and turned in on time, monitors cash handling procedures to insure they are followed and all funds are secured. Ensures that the VS Department checklist is completed and turned over to Service Area Optical Manager of Vision Services on a monthly basis. 5. Monitors quality of product to meet American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards and ensures that turnaround time has been met. 6. Addresses and resolves member complaints, concerns, and requests for information. Communicates member/staff interaction trends and problems to supervisors. Constantly evaluates ways to improve member/customer satisfaction and meet member/customer needs. 7. Acts as liaison between Service Area Manager, Optical Centers and Optical Lab. 8. Participates in setting of revenue targets and cost containment controls, reviewing with each center at direction of Director of Vision Services for compliance. 9. Participates under the direction of the Director of Vision Services and business project proposed for the department. Is actively involved in accessing community competition to include pricing, levels of service, and customer expectations concerning hours of operation. 10. Adheres to policy and procedures surrounding vision services physical inventory. 11. Coordinates the maintenance of supply levels to meet the needs of the department. 12. Serves as a supportive member of the Vision Services Management Team in providing caring, efficient, and quality vision services. 13. The applicant will report to the facilities Chief of Ophthalmology and hold a full time VA appointment. They will be responsible for interpreting digital retinal images and making recommendation for patient follow up as part of the VA teleretinal imaging screening program for diabetic retinopathy. The Teleretinal Imaging Program (TRIP) is a store and forward telehealth technology used to acquire and store clinical information that is then forwarded to another site for clinical evaluation. TRIP is a primary care based model that will screen veterans with diabetes for retinopathy using teleretinal imaging that expedite referral for treatment and provide health information. TRIP readers function in an office environment rather than a clinic environment
