Administers life support care to sick and injured persons in a pre-hospital setting in accordance with state, administrative and standing order protocols MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Completion of a course of study leading to designation as EMT-Paramedic Must have 1 year field experience in a rural 1st responder area or 2 years experience in an urban area covered by an Emergency Medical Services agency 2. Certified and/or eligible for certification as an EMT-Paramedic by the State of Arizona Department of Health Services 3. CPR, ACLS and PALS certification required 4. Current and valid State of Arizona drivers license 5. Ability to speak and understand Pima language preferred ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Initiates and assumes control of an EMS incident by organizing and facilitating scene operations to expedite patient care and transport 2. Establishes sectors and triages victims, contacts flight agencies and provides specific directions and/or instructions regarding landing site, secures area for helicopter, provides updated status to pilots regarding area hazards 3. Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or needed for additional assistance 4. Initiates and performs basic and advanced life support procedures in accordance with state and medical control protocols including, but not limited to: identifies and treats heart rhythm disturbances on pulseless, non-breathing patient, monitors cardiac patient identifying and treating potential life threatening disturbances, initiates intravenous fluids, performs endotracheal intubation and administers injections of medications and drugs 5. Administers initial treatment at emergency scene, takes and records patients vital signs and physical assessment findings 6. Initiates contact with specified hospital destination; shares patient information with facility physician including response to treatment, drugs and significant incidents 7. Extricates trapped victims, initiates and assists in rescue operations necessary to delivery emergency medical care 8. Transfers patients to ambulance via back board and transports to designated hospital facility 9. Contacts insurance to verify coverage of patients 10. Participates in regular competency drills to ensure ability to accurately, correctly and safely operate all equipment 11. Assists in delivery of interagency, inter-facility and referral medical transportation as requested 12. Performs regular maintenance on all equipment, units, stations and supplies to ensure proper and safe operations 13. Completes patient encounter reports, activity logs, and other records in accordance with department protocols 14. Actively participates in a variety of community and school-based educational and informational programs to increase awareness and interest in first aid training 15. Actively participates with other Tribal and Public Safety agencies during staged drills and mock events 16. Escalates issues/problems involving mutual aid conflicts to Shift Supervisor for resolution 17. Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives 18. Minimum Requirements: Requires completion of Paramedic program, active Paramedic license, and two years of Paramedic experience required. BLS, ACLS, PTLS or IHTLS strongly preferred. Additional Information: This is a PRN position between the hours of 7a-7p. As an integral part of our accredited Chest Pain and Stroke Center and the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Middle Tennessee, the Adult Emergency Department serves the emergency medical needs of local and regional patients. The newly expanded and renovated Adult ED includes 16 critical care beds, 4 trauma bays, 4 fast track rooms, 4 swing beds, 7 holding beds, a 9-bed Chest pain and Stroke Center, 2 team triage beds and, an 8 room psychiatric transition unit. The department also has 2 CT scanners, a decontamination room, and a family grief support room. Diagnoses include but are not limited to MVA, cardiac arrhythmias, gunshot and stabbing victims, renal crisis, GI bleeds. Vanderbilt is a smoke-free workplace in compliance with the Non-Smoker Protection Act, Tennessee Code Annotated 39-17-1801-1810. In accordance with that law and Vanderbilt policy, smoking is prohibited in all enclosed areas on Vanderbilt property.

While working as a member of the transport team, provides safe, efficient and effective inter-facility transport to a wide variety of ill and injured patients. Provides advanced life support care necessary to stabilize and transport patients. The provision of this care may occur under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or with standing protocols under a physicians direction conjunction with other providers (i.e. Emergency Medical Technicians). Provide staffing the Emergency Communications and Information Center. High school diploma, Certification from the State of Maryland, Virginia, The District of Columbia and The National Registry Of EMTs. 2-4 years of related experience. A wide variety of clinical experience is strongly preferred. AHA BLS HP, ACLS, PALS required.
