Duties: functions as a Ophtalmic Technologist in the Ophthalmology Practice. Performs a wide range of specialized diagnostic examinations and advanced clinical ophthalmology duties. Takes patients´ medical histories, administers eye medications, takes ophthalmic photographs, using ultrasound, fluorescense angiography; performs electrophysical and microbiological procedures, assisting in ophthalmic surgery, and exercising considerable clinical technical judgement. The work of the position requires expertise in the field of ocular motility, visual fields and color vision, tonometry, optics, contact lenses, pharmacology, microbiology, retinoscopy, low vision blindness testing, ocular disease, interocular lens power computation, macular function testing, instrument maintenance, and asepsis in ophthalmic surgery - all of which is recognized b the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Joint Commission on Allied Health in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) as Ophthalmic Technologist skills and possession of which may be demonstrated through successful completion of the JCAHPO certification examination as a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT).
