Microbiology includes bacteriology, anaerobic bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, parasitology, and virology. This area has a profound mission: Protecting our patients by providing rapid identification of microbes, detecting antibiotic susceptibility or resistance, and assisting in the control of nosocomial spread of infection. If you are an experienced Clinical Lab Scientist, have a valid CA CLS license, and share our mission, we would like you to join us.Accession, process, and plate clinical specimens. Recognize and identify pathogens and normal flora using manual and semi-automated methods. Set up, interpret, and report manual and automated susceptibility test results, including complex antibiograms. Respond to physician inquiries, investigate problems, and participate in a team-oriented work environment.Only candidates with a B.S. in a biological science, medical technology, or related science and who possess a valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or limited license appropriate for the area of responsibility will be considered. Good sterile technique, experience processing and plating clinical specimens as well as identifying potential pathogens. 2 or more years work experience in a clinical Microbiology laboratory as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with peers, patients, physicians and other customers of the medical center. Knowledge of Sunquest (LIS), Vitek2, Phoenix, and Bactec 9240 systems a plus. Full command of the English language (oral and written).Frequent sitting and standing; occasional walking and bending; occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds for distances to 10 feet. Frequent use of computer keyboards, monitors and telephones. Responsiveness to auditory alarms and communication devices including: telephones, beepers, fire alarms, mechanical failure alarms.
