Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems. Evaluates and reports patient results using considerable independent judgment within the scope of established testing methods. Performs quality control procedures and contributes to the maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies. Takes a lead role in the development and implementation of new procedures, instrumentation, computer functionality, etc. Assumes responsibility for one or more major on-going laboratory projects or functions or the equivalent - i.e. CQI, safety, instrumentation, quality control, regulatory, administrative, staff development, computer (LIS, HIS, hospital intranet, PC applications), etc. Serves as a resource in area of responsibility. Performs testing that requires specialized knowledge within a discipline and/or crosses disciplines. Updates knowledge, skills and applies appropriately. Maintains age-specific and other required competencies. Trains new employees in the theoretical and operational aspects, procedures and evaluates their work. Acts as a resource for less experienced co-workers. Assists supervisor in review of laboratory reports, procedures, quality control. Helps oversee and assure complete documentation of employee training, annual competency testing, procedure manual reviews, etc. May be called upon to provide after-hours assistance or oversee the operations of the department in the absence of supervisory personnel. May be recognized as a technical expert in a specific laboratory discipline. Through specialty certification and/or on-the-job experience/education, has gained extensive knowledge in specialty area and applies knowledge on a daily basis. As a technical specialist, serves as a technical resource and mentor to the staff, and sees that technical requirements for regulatory agencies are met - CAP, AABB, FDA, CLIA, JCAHO. Organizes and maintains updated technical resources for the department. Oversees departmental proficiency testing. Assumes major responsibility for updating, reviewing departmental procedure manuals. Assists in the annual evaluation of the technical performance of employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Works both independently and as part of a team with general supervision, periodic review by supervisory staff.Experience Requirements :Five (5) years of recent relevant experience as a Medical Technologist or the equivalent..Education Requirements :BS/BA in life science with national certification in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology. Bachelor�s degree in a related field and completion of Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Medical Technology..Licensure/Certification Requirements :Appropriate ASCP/NCA certification required. Specialty certification preferred.Hours of Work : Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. - 7:30 p.m., flexible to work alternate shifts as neededWeekend Requirements : Every ThirdCall Requirements : One week per month
