Geisinger Health Systems Neuroscience Institute provides the full spectrum of state-of-the-art treatments of brain, spinal and peripheral neurosurgical and neurological problems. Using the latest endovascular, computer-guided, endoscopic, stereotactic and percutaneous techniques, the team is dedicated to providing excellent service to their adult and pediatric patients. Responsibilities include diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the nurse practitioner to extend their knowledge in the sphere of decision making required to establish a diagnosis and to plan the appropriate therapy. Works collaboratively with the neurologists to provide care to new or established patients. Major roles include provision of acute episodic care for all practice patients, continuity care and advocacy for patients, serving as a liaison between physicians and patients. These roles, undertaken in cooperation with nursing, staff physicians and other department staff, may include triage, telephone communication and patient education. Reports clinically to the designated primary collaborating physician(s). Reports administratively to the Director and Operations Manager, Neurosciences.The successful midlevel provider reports directly to the Co-Directors of the Neuroscience Institute for all clinical related responsibilities. He/she reports directly to the Chief Mid-level Provider, Neuroscience or in absence, Operations Manager, Neuroscience for all non-clinical administrative responsibilities. The successful Physician Assistant candidate requires completion of a CAAHEP-approved physician assistant program, NCCPA certification or eligibility through Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine licensure. Experience in Neurosurgery, Critical Care or Neuroscience is preferred. The successful Physician Assistant candidate will have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Physician Assistants. He/she must be certified to work with all patient population age groups. Experience in Neurosurgery, Critical Care or Neuroscience is preferred.Our successful candidate will have a strong desire to work with the Neuroscience patients and their families. Additionally, the candidate should have excellent people skills, demonstrated concern for the health and well-being of others, superior written and oral communication skills, computer literacy including electronic medical record documentation and the ability to work both as a team member and independently.
