Position Summary: Functions as a Physician Assistant in the Critical Care Division on the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Service. The job entails aiding the physicians with patient work-ups, conducting histories and physicals for critical care consults, interpreting hemodynamic and mechanical ventilation data, and acting as a resource to the neurosurgeons and neurosurgical nurses for critical care issues. Primary responsibilities include: Performing initial critical care consultation, daily rounds with attending intensivist, placing arterial and central venous catheters after appropriate certification, management of mechanical ventilation and patient´s hemodynamic status. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital´s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. Required Education/Training: Bachelors degree required. Graduation from an accredited Physicians Assistant Program. PA certification, DC License. Required Experience: Minimum of 1 year Critical Care experience. Knowledge of critical care hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical ventilation/respiratory physiology. Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients/families as well as staff and physicians. Experience with arterial and central line placement and monitoring. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
