Position Summary: Functions as a Physician Assistant in the Critical Care Division on the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Service. The job entails aiding the physicians with patient work-ups, conducting histories and physicals for critical care consults, interpreting hemodynamic and mechanical ventilation data, and acting as a resource to the neurosurgeons and neurosurgical nurses for critical care issues. Primary responsibilities include: Performing initial critical care consultation, daily rounds with attending intensivist, placing arterial and central venous catheters after appropriate certification, management of mechanical ventilation and patient“s hemodynamic status. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital“s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. Required Education/Training: Bachelors degree required. Graduation from an accredited Physicians Assistant Program. PA certification, DC License. Required Experience: Minimum of 1 year Critical Care experience. Knowledge of critical care hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical ventilation/respiratory physiology. Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients/families as well as staff and physicians. Experience with arterial and central line placement and monitoring. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
