Fully accredited by the Joint Commission, the highest national healthcare governing body, Research Medical Center provides a wide variety of services and specialties including a Cancer Center, Transplant Institute for kidney and pancreas transplants, Certified Stroke Center, and an award winning Cardiovascular Department.Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician: Under the general supervision of the Chemistry Section Manager/Lead Technologist performs preanalytic testing responsibilities including clerical duties, data entry, specimen collection, and specimen processing; performs waived, moderate complexity, and high complexity biochemical/hematologic testing on blood and body fluids as defined by CLIA 1988; performs post analytic testing responsibilities including test reporting, verification, investigation of technical, instrumental, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results, and monitoring of quality control; maintains inventory of supplies and reagents; maintains non-analytic equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and centrifuges; maintains a safe work area; demonstrates professional work habits and interpersonal skills; participates in performance improvement activities, evaluation of new test methodologies/instrumentation, and management of laboratory data; correlates abnormal laboratory data with pathologic states to determine validity and/or whether follow-up tests should be performed; teaches theory and procedures using educational methodology to clinical laboratory science (medical technology) students; assists with the orientation and training of MLT/CLT, Non-registered MT/CLS, and Registered MT/CLS employees. The primary analytic responsibilities for the employee will be in the Chemistry section (includes Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, and Special Chemistry) of the Laboratory. Qualifications Required Job Qualifications include:Education: Bachelor degree in medical technology/clinical laboratory science or related science required. Will also accept MLT candidates who has completed Associate Degree in Clinical Science. Registration/Certification: Certification as MT (ASCP)/CLS(NCA) or MLT (ASCP) as appropriate, subspecialty certification such as BB(ASCP), C(ASCP), M(ASCP), etc. requiredOpen to new graduates from a medical technology program who are eligible to sit for the ASCP or NCA exams. Will have a one year timeframe to become registered.Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.Strong team work and collaboration abilities.Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, walking, lifting, grasping and repetitive motion. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, climbing, overhead lifting.
