Exciting opportunity in a brand new sleep lab! We are seeking an experienced polysomnographic technician who is RPSGT eligible/certified. The Sleep Technician will demonstrate the ability to perform all standard duties and all lead duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Sleep Services. These duties will include, but are not limited to the following: a)Nocturnal Polysomnography (NPSG)b)Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT)c)Multiple Wakefulness Testing (MWT)d)Portable 6 Channel Monitoringe)Portable Oximetry Testing f)Sleep and respiratory event pattern recognition and EEG, EOG, and EMG patterns during sleepg)Utilization of all diagnostic equipment associated with Sleep Disorders Studiesh)Other special procedures as deemed appropriate by the Coordinator (Sleep Services), Respiratory Care Manager and Medical Director of the Sleep Diagnostic Center.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSOperational Duties-Assists the coordinator with data collection and reporting of quality activities including but not limited to inter-scorer reliability, hospital patient satisfaction survey, sleep center patient satisfaction survey and audits.-Assists with work flow and staff scheduling.-Actively participates in engagement plan for department as needed.-Actively participates in operational activities and meetings as needed.-Adheres to the department clinical policies, procedures and protocols.-Assists the coordinator with inventory control and purchasing of clinic supplies, demonstrating a cost-conscious approach. -Pursues continuing education and keeps up to date with polysomnography technological developments.-Trouble-shoots and problem solves in the event of malfunctioning equipment & as issues arise, communicating with coordinator and manager in a timely manner.-Attends all mandatory meetings.-Assists the coordinator in the allocation of patient distribution to ensure proper patient workload coverage and to improve consistency of patient care. Standard Duties-Promotes a safety-conscious work force and maintains good housekeeping practices.-Performs examinations on all patients from five years of age to senior adults.-Conducts all testing procedures according to department protocols. Assures that age specific needs of the patients served are met.-Performs equipment set up, calibration, and patient hookup in a timely and efficient manner and according to department procedures.-Greets and escorts patient to department and explains testing procedures to ensure patient comfort and relaxation.-Administers bedtime, morning, and quality assurance questionnaires to aid in patient evaluation.-Independently marks, measures and applies EEG electrodes.-Participates in educational activities to enhance the quality of individual and departmental service.-Performs additional duties as needed to further enhance the quality of service provided by department.-Achieves or progresses towards mutual goals and actions as listed.-Ensures a safe environment for patients and staff by following guidelines for safety, infection control, emergency procedures and equipment maintenance.-Demonstrates the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual patient care appropriate to the age of patients served by demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.-Communicates appropriately with the person served regardless of their age.-Performs other duties as required or assigned.GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLSRequired qualifications:-Must have a related clinical license/certification such as Registered Nurse or Respiratory Therapist, or be a current RPSGT certified Polysomnographic Technician, plus a minimum of one year of clinical Polysomnographic experience. Preferred Qualifications:-Two or more years of experience in a recognized sleep disorders center with demonstrable knowledge of NPSG, MSLT, MWT, and portable testing.-Experience in clinical interaction with patients, co-workers and medical staff which demonstrates the following skills: a)The ability to maintain composure with multiple workloads and demands due to the patients condition and difficult testing environment. b)Must be extremely vigilant and detail oriented. c)Must be able to work alone and independently but able to maintain department protocols.d)Must present him/herself in a professional manner at all times.EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONSRequired: -High school diploma or equivalent.-Must have RPSGT certification if not currently a Respiratory Therapist or a Registered Nurse (see below). -If a Respiratory Therapist, must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Therapy (NBRT) and must obtain RPSGT certification within 24 months of date of hire.-If a Registered Nurse (RN), must hold a current license, and must obtain RPSGT certification within 24 months of date of hire.-Minimum Requirement: BLS certification. SENSORY/PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTSSensory: Verbal and hearing abilities, visual acuity, manual dexterity, and handwriting skills are essential to performing this job.Physical: Must have ability to: tolerate walking and standing on linoleum or concrete floor for most of the shift except for breaks and meal periods, lift equipment and supplies weighing 25 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally, independently push and pull beds or equipment on wheels weighing up to 500 lbs to other areas of the hospital on occasional basis; independently move, lift and position patients weighing up to 200 lbs and assist others in moving, lifting, and positioning patients weighing over 200 lbs.; responds to codes and patient calls/alarms. Performs CPR in emergency situations.Mental: Must have the capability to learn and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously within the scope and guidelines of this position and its licensure requirements, many requiring complex cognitive capabilities.
