GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:The position of a Physician Assistant with Metrocrest Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is to assist the surgeons with surgical cases, assist the physicians with in-office surgical procedures, work in the Cast Room, dispense DME, assist in the care of the Physicians patients and fulfill the need as Physician Extenders performing selective medical services under the direction of the Physicians.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but not limited to:- Full Time, salaried position typically 40 hours per week but can vary with patient load and surgery scheduling.- Works in the capacity as a surgical assistant in both outpatient and inpatient settings.- Works with patients and pre-certification staff to schedule surgeries and other inpatient and outpatient services.- Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. Reviews patient records, interpreting and integrating data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed, including, but not limited to, x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests.- Performs a complete physical exam and records findings. Establishes presumptive diagnosis.- Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.- Administers injections, immunizations, and oral medications. Sutures wounds and provides wound care and infection management. Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances.- Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention; instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education. - Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation.- Participates in the call rotation as assigned by the physicians.- Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.- Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.- Maintains the strictest confidentiality.- Performs related work as required.JOB QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:- Knowledge of the professional medical practice and care to give and evaluate patient care. - Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.- Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of medicine to provide on-going patient care.- Skill in taking medical history, assessing medical condition, and interpreting findings. - Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, employees, Physicians, and the public.- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.- Ability to interpret, adapt, apply guidelines and procedures.- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.- Graduation from an accredited Physicians Assistant program.REQUIREMENTS:- Must be computer literate with the ability to use Practice Management System, PACs, Electronic Health Record and other computerized systems utilized by the practice.- Ability to interact with patients in a caring, professional and compassionate manner.- Cooperative and flexible interactions with coworkers.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:- Eligible or Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants.- Maintains certification through required medical education, licensing and testing.BENEFITS:- Compensation based on experience.- Paid universal time i.e., vacation/sick/personal days.- Paid holidays.- Paid time away per year for CME courses, compensation for CME, journals, text books, etc. - Per month diem paid for incidentals such as cell phone, lab coat, etc.- Paid hospital dues, certification fees, license fees, and other fees required to maintain eligibility to practice medicine.- Incentive compensation at the discretion of supervising Physician.- Relocation assistance offered.
