Location: Seton Medical Center Austin Full/Part: Full-Time Days / Evenings - 8hr Shift: Grade FLSA Status 016 N Responsibilities 1. Assesses patients nutrition status and identifies those at nutrition risk based on knowledge of disease state, nutrition implications of lab values, nutrient utilization, medication and nutrient interactions. 2. Interviews patients and significant others and assesses eating habits, lifestyle, education needs and/or specific nutrient needs. 3. Determines nutritional requirements for patients throughout the lifecycle and designs a nutrition plan to implement physicians orders. 4. Educates patient and significant others on practical program to integrate necessary modifications into lifestyle. 5. Evaluates appropriateness and effectiveness of alternative feeding modalities and monitors throughout the hospital stay. 6. Acts as resource to diet tech and other members of the health care team on implementation of nutrition care plan. 7. Participates in department QI activities, such as chart audits and at least one other project. Minimum Qualifications Three (3) years clinical experience to include two (2) years in specialty position is required. Registered Dietitian (R.D.) is required. Current Dietitian License by the State of Texas or pending licensure (received within 60 days of hire) is required. Advanced Certification may substitute for two (2) years in a specialty position. Develops and leads one new project, such as coordinating National Nutrition Month activities, revising diet education materials or other projects as listed or approved by manager 3. Compass trainer for staff; orients new staff to Compass or completes other Compass assignments 4. Conducts three presentations per year for audiences such as nursing staff, physicians, media or kitchen staff, or facilitates classes for staff or public 5. Validates/documents achievement of position requirements 6. Performs other duties as assigned.
