SNW Cardiopulmonary Responsibilities 1. Administration of medical and anesthetic gases, such as nitrous oxide, helium, fluothane, and carbon dioxide. 2. Systemic administration of medications and anesthetics to the cardiorespiratory system by means of humidifiers and aerosols. 3. Performs ventilatory assistance and ventilatory control (such as high frequency oscillatory ventilation, high frequency jet ventilation, independent lung ventilation, pressure control ventilation, non-invasive ventilation). Performs therapeutics procedures such as postural drainage, chest percussion or vibration, assistance with chest tube insertion, breathing exercises, cardiac stress testing, electrocardiograms, holter monitoring, respiratory rehabilitation, pulmonary function testing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, patient driven protocol assessments, maintenance of natural airways, and insertion and maintenance of artificial airways. 4. Assist in diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, and research, including the measurement of pulmonary volumes, pressures, flows, hemodynamic and other related physiological forms of monitoring - including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, and end-tidal carbon dioxide monitoring. 5. Performs specimen collection and analysis of blood and other materials, such as arterial blood gases, venous gases, electrolytes, pleural fluid, and spinal fluid. 6. Communicates patient status with physicians, accepts and transcribes verbal orders. Communicates effectively and appropriately to patient, family and other health care providers. 7. Participates in patient care conferences, patient teaching, clinical instruction, discharge planning. 8. Documents delivery of respiratory care in accordance with department standards and hospital policy. 9. Participates as a member of the adult/pediatric/ neonatal transport teams. Minimum Qualifications Current Texas Department of State Health Services Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license is required. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required or have the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential and be eligible to take the RRT examination. RRT credential from the NBRC is required within six (6) months of employment. Skills Must have good communication skills and have the ability to work in stressful situations.
