The medical physicist actively participates the effort of accomplishing the optimal balance of image diagnosis quality and radiation dose reduction in close collaboration with physicians, technologists, scientists and other technical staff in (1) utilizing specialized knowledge in diagnostic imaging physics to evaluate the key technical components and make valuable recommendations in equipment purchase and site planning, (2) identifying the clinical needs on image quality improvement and patient safety and developing viable solutions through phantom studies and computer simulations, (3) designing, implementing, overseeing and reviewing the quality assurance program. This includes regular evaluation of imaging equipment performance and compliance with applicable federal, state, local and regulatory/ accreditation agencies requirements as well as the requirements of CSHS’s radioactive materials license, (4) teaching imaging physics and nuclear medicine instrumentation to resident physicians and technologists, (5) assuring proper radiation safety practices are used for both patients and personnel in nuclear medicine, (6) participating clinical research and publishes findings.Actively stays abreast of imaging technology, pursue or maintain board certification, and is accountable for all applicable documentation to duties performed. The Medical Physicist will demonstrate continuous self-improvement, make effective contributions to sections, adhere to CSHS compliance plan, code of conduct and hospital and departmental policies and procedures. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES•Provides technical evaluation and make recommendations to clinical colleagues for new equipment purchase. Design appropriate radiation shielding for site planning. •Conducts acceptance test on new equipment and timely physics survey for all diagnostic imaging devices and oversees the quality assurance program including ACR/ICANL accreditations.•Reviews and evaluates clinical protocols to assure the safe use of imaging devices.•By working closely with radiologists and technologists, continuously identifies the clinical needs on image quality improvement and patient radiation safety. Develop solutions by working with radiologists and technologists. •Reviews nuclear medicine camera and diagnostic imaging quality control and implements appropriate action. •Prepares all monthly and quarterly reports for quality control activities in nuclear medicine. •Develops quality control protocols for all equipment, including and maintaining up-to-date documentation for policy and procedure manuals. •Maintains records of and assists in arranging for equipment repair and preventive maintenance. •Reviews clinical results with physicians and/or supervisors to assure clinical studies remain technically satisfactory. Suggests and implements solutions when necessary. •Determines technical factors to be used to optimize the equipment’s performance to the clinical study as needed. •Ensures compliance and reviews records in accordance with the institutional radioactive materials license, MQSA, and X-Ray tube management. Makes recommendations to department manager or director as appropriate. •Participates imaging related research especially in clinical applications.•Maintains compliance with TJC/DHS and other regulatory agencies. •Responds to and implements appropriate action for radioactive material spills/ mis-administrations. •Prepares license amendments and dosimeter calculations as needed. •Teaches courses and provides in-services as needed on radiation physics and nuclear medicine instrumentation. •Orients and trains employees on radiation safety issues. Education and Work Experience Preferences: QUALIFICATIONS-M.S. or PhD in medical physics specializing in radiation measurements, image quality assessment, radiation safety, radiation biology, radiation dosimeter, nuclear physics, imaging instrumentation, and mathematics. Certification eligible by the American Board of Radiology is required and familiarity with DICOM/PACS and computer programming is a plus. -Minimum 5 years experience in the medical field. -Full command (written and verbal) of the English language. Physical ability and perceptive acuity to satisfactorily perform duties. -Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with peers, patients, physicians and other customers of the medical center.
