Position Summary: Within a 24-hour framework, responsible for the delivery of therapy and treatment to the youth who reside at the McCann Residential Psychiatric Treatment Center. The clinician will provide health care services to assigned adolescents, and include the clients´ families in the treatment process. Provides a healthy and structured environment while engaging clients and families in a therapeutic alliance. Functions as an active member within a Multidisciplinary Clinical Team, and takes the lead in therapeutic management and service provision. Position Qualifications: Master´s Degree in a Human Services Field, and must be licensable within the state of Alaska within a two-year time frame. One year supervised experience providing various mental health services required. Some knowledge of therapeutic services provided in residential psychiatric facilities required. Knowledge and/or experience in substance abuse treatment preferred. Prefer background working with diverse cultures with an emphasis on Native American. Must be willing to learn and implement Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training, First Aid & CPR, and participate in the 40 CEU yearly minimum requirements as defined by RPTC regulations and mandates. Minimum Experience: Must be at least 21 years of age according to State of Alaska Office of Children Services (OCS) mandate. Minimum of two years working with children and/or adolescents, and have field experience/practicum working with adolescents in multicultural mental health service delivery. Ability to analysis and interpret client needs. Ability to communicate theories and plans to staff, clients and families. Ability to read medication administration records, and have basic understanding of medical terminology, diagnosis, and psychotropic medications. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of rapidly changing situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to appropriately respond to non-compliant, aggressive and violent client behaviors. Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct supervisory responsibilities required, but must be capable of taking the lead in the coordination and implementation of activities related to specialty. Complete assessments required to get individuals into waiver funded services and maintain people in the community, rather than in institutions or nursing homes. Assure compliance with waiver manual and Olmstead Act. Assists in meeting DHS/DBHDDs WIG of keeping individuals out of hospitals (to reduce incidents within hospitals) by providing technical assistance to families and providers. Serve as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team for recipients of developmental disability services, providing psychosocial services, including evaluation, eligibility determination and technical consultation/assistance. The social worker may provide leadership to the interdisciplinary team that provides intake and evaluation services for the region. Conducts interviews with consumers and family members, legal guardians and caregivers. Social work and other functional assessment instruments are administered to make eligibility determinations and develop service plan recommendations. Assessment findings, written by the social worker, are reported in required documentation for the individuals record. Assessments are reviewed with team members as part of the interdisciplinary planning program. Participates in milieu therapy for patients on an individual or group basis. Leads or assists in milieu groups. Incorporates knowledge of each patient´s condition and application of various therapeutic techniques; ensures appropriate participation by patients. 2. Collaborates with other unit staff in assessing and evaluating patient´s mental status. Initiates and maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients. Collaborates in the diagnosis and treatment of patients; shares information and participates in the formulation of treatment plans. Coordinates and implements various aspects of milieu environment to provide a therapeutic experience for patients. Collaborates with other staff members to determine whether a patient represents a risk to himself/herself and/or others. Works with other unit personnel with crisis intervention techniques. 3. Provides supportive care to patients, such as participating in conversation, recreational activities, and basic living activities. This may include assisting patients with bathing, eating, and other daily living activities. Sets limits, confronts counterproductive activities and behavior, and reassures and orients patients. Encourages and facilitates appropriate interactions between patients. 4. Records all appropriate information on patient charts; prepares regular reports describing each patients mental status and functioning, as well as significant interactions. Reports and documents overt, covert, verbal, and non-verbal communications by patients. 5. Provides support and education to family members and significant others regarding the patients status. Works with representatives of outside agencies in obtaining or disseminating information on individual patients. Participates in discharge planning and referral, if necessary. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: 1. The level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of a Bachelors Degree in psychology or a related field.
