The Lead Respiratory Therapist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Respiratory Care, Pulmonary Function Testing and Bronchoscopy assistance provided by department personnel to patients. Collaborates with MSLH management to develop procedures to maintain consistent standards of practice. Actively role models and coaches behaviors that support Methodist Sugar Land Hospitals values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountiability, Respect and Excellence standards. Works closely with Risk Management and Infection Control to institute monitors for quality patient care. PATIENT AGE GROUP SERVEDNewborn, Pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatricDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1.Demonstrates critical thinking, creativity, leadership and versatility in handling complex clinical and interpersonal situations. Problem solves effectively and is available for clinical support, coaching and direction to all staff as needed. Acts as an effective change agent.(EF)2.Ensures appropriate staffing assignments and re-directs resources as needed according to acuity in order to deliver optimal service to all age groups. Coaches staff to do the same on all shifts. (EF).3.Performs staffing and scheduling responsibilities effectively to ensure adequate coverage to meet department needs and adhere to established budget. (EF)4.Contributes to interdisciplinary team conference to facilitate effective case management of patients. Encourages staff to be proactive in identifying and removing barriers to efficient and effective patient care.(EF)5.Handles all patient, physician or other customer concerns in an effective manner, referring to appropriate resources as necessary. Demonstrates exemplary customer service skills and coaches staff to do the same. (EF)6.Trains, develops and evaluates team members. Conducts inservices and annual competencies to equip staff with knowledge and skills to provide optimal care. Assists with selection of new hires. (EF).7.Identifies opportunities for performance improvement (PI) and takes steps to organize PI team to effect improvement. Models, monitors, audits and coaches staff to meet documentation requirements. (PI).8.Supports a blame free culture by communicating and questioning, encouraging and supporting others to do the same. Facilitates team-work by being a role model and holding staff accountable for team work and constructive use of down time. (EF).9.Establishes system to provide needed supplies and equipment for patient care. Evaluates resources to identify improvement opportunities for quality as well as cost.10.Takes the lead to ensure department practice is compliant with regulatory, Infection Control, OSHA, safety, HIPAA, Quality Assurance, hospital and specialty practice standards. Holds staff accountable to meet all job requirements.(EF).11.Ensures system of accurate charge entry and presence of complete supporting chart documentation of services.12.Performs all required administrative duties such as preparing monthly statistics,department reports, payroll editing, staff meetings, etc.13.Demonstrates the components of the ICARE values statement ( Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence). Seeks feedback from staff and manager to identify opportunities for improvement. (EF).14.Follows all safety rules while on the job. New hires without Neo Resus or ACLS have 90 days to attain or be terminated. Professional appearance and demeanor. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English. Bilingual abilities a plus. Advanced computer skills a plus such as knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access etc. The Respiratory Care Practitioner is expected to take responsibilities on facility committees, and participate in hospital sponsored community eventsBe able to do Electro Cardiograms, and Holter Monitor hook ups. Be proficient in arterial puncture and venipuncture.
