Performs wide range of Ultrasound procedures on patients of varying ages, completes all associated tasks and responsibilities necessary to manage patient care needs while patient is in Department for procedures.
Principal Duties/Responsibilities:1. Responsible for acquiring registration applicable to respective department cost center. A.R.D.M.S. is the preferred registration, with registration level requirement monitored at annual performance appraisal.2. Independently performs all Ultrasound procedure types as is required in respective departments i.e.; OB, ABD, Pelvis, Small Parts, Neuro, Vascular, Breast and Invasive Procedures. 3. Responsible and accountable for the quality of patient care via utilization of assessment, planning, and implementation.4. Provides skills and knowledge to adjust equipment technique according to patient age, physique and/or condition, to produce a high quality image.5. Responsible and accountable for determining if film quality of each procedure adequately demonstrates appropriate patient identification information, Anatomy, positioning and technique necessary for Physicians to diagnose and treat patient.6. Coordinates and organizes Ultrasound procedures and additional shift duty assignments in efficient manner.7. Demonstrates high level of computer skills to properly manipulate image capture, reconstruction, formatting and transfer to respective workstations/printers.8. Demonstrates ability to properly maintain/document all associated patient and procedure record information to include efficient use of Radiology management system.9. Is able to diagnose and trouble shoot equipment failures or problems and determine corrective measures for resolution.10. Participates in department performance improvement programs and processes.11. Supervises education and training of student Sonographer or staff Radiographers in all aspects of Ultrasound procedures and processes.12. Demonstrates skills and competencies to independently perform all specialty related procedures or tasks.13. Adheres to El Paso County Hospital District CARE Values, standards, policies and procedures at both the Hospital and Departmental level.14. Promotes a service orientation in the performance of position duties and responsibilities and in interactions with patients, hospital staff and visitors.15. Adheres to Thomason Hospital and Radiology Department body substance isolation policies, exposure to Hazardous Materials policies and utilizes/wears required protective equipment and/or clothing.16. Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Position Requirements:Work Experience:One-year experience performing a wide variety of Ultrasound procedures under supervision of physician or registered Sonographer preferred.License/Registration/Certification:1.American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Sonography (S) / Vascular Sonography (VS) registered preferred or registry eligible, ARDMS is the preferred credentialing agency for registration. 2. All Sonographers must be certified at required program level at time of the respective department inspection by the American College of Radiology (ACR) or at onset of accreditation renewal. Exception to this will be recent graduates.3. ACR guidelines state Sonographer must be registered within two years after graduating from an accredited school.4. CPR Certified.Education and Training: Senior student or graduate of an accredited Ultrasound program. Skills: 1.Possesses critical thinking and problem solving skills.2. Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.3. Possesses effective interpersonal relationship skills.4. Technically competent in tasks within the scope of practice of an Ultrasound Technologist.5. Ability to utilize computers for documentation purposes.
