Laboratory TechnicianPhlebotomy certification from an accredited agency or completion of an approved phlebotomy training course. Candidate must have Basic Life Support (BLS). Have a minimum of 1 year of experience as a Lab TechnicianCollect, maintain and interpret quality control data to ensure accurate patient test results; use laboratory information system to input and extract patient and laboratory test information; document quality assurance information.Perform user level maintenance on computer systems, including label and report printers, and function verification checks on laboratory equipment, such as refrigerators, freezers, and centrifuges. Preventive maintenance and function verification checks will be documented on the appropriate logs at the time the task is completed in accordance with SOP.Collect blood specimens; process body fluids for analysis; prepare appropriate reagents, standards and controls; clean, sort, and store laboratory glassware.Perform routine and complex testing of patient specimens; reviews results for appropriateness using the published regulatory guidelines, and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Program regulations. Examine patient specimens for discrepancies in collection, appearance, and handling; rejects samples that are unacceptable. Prepare patient specimens, includes specimen identification, for analysis. Perform routine and complex testing.Review patient results for obvious errors relating to specimen handling, specimen integrity, and instrument function. Enters sample results along with appropriate comments into the laboratory computer. Refers unusual request results and circumstances to the Technical Supervisor.Repeat and report critical values according to the published regulatory guidelines. Perform proficiency and competency testing as required by the CLIP. Complete unfinished test lists to ensure optimal turnaround times.Prepare quality control products for analysis; perform quality control testing and evaluation; report critical values and correct inaccurate reports.Maintain and document instrument maintenance and function checks in accordance with regulatory guidelines; adhere to all safety requirements; perform and document calibration according to instrument operators manuals; investigate obviously erroneous calibration data.Participate in staff meetings and conferences as scheduled by the OIC of the work site. These tasks are accomplished in conjunction with routine work.
