Austin Childrens Chest AssocResponsibilities 1. Maintains clinical competency (to include population specific) and informs provider if task exceeds current competency level. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of procedures needed to assist with daily operations of the clinic. 2. Collecting, reporting and documentation of data including, but not limited to: Patients chief complaint, vital signs, height, weight, head circumference, current medications, oximetry level and patient comfort level. Specimens for diagnostic study (urine, sputum, stool, blood) 3. Performs selected assigned clinical duties including but not limited to: preparing patients for examination and/or treatment, assisting the RN, LVN and /or Provider as directed, setting up exam or procedure rooms, cleaning and sterilization of instruments, communicating with patients to relay information as directed by the Provider. 4. Assists with clean and /or sterile dressing changes in departments where this task is frequently performed after completing SETONs certification and competency check-off. 5. After completing SETONs certification and competency check-off, performs applicable tasks which may include: (a) urinary catheterization, (b) electronic monitor observation, (c) removal of staples and simple sutures, (d) removal of peripheral IV catheters. 6. Reinforces health teaching that is planned and/or provided by the RN or Provider. 7. Participates in obtaining timely referral authorization from insurance carriers and relaying of such authorizations (or denials) to the patient and the Provider. Stays abreast of current insurance requirements. 8. As a designated agent of the Physician, relays prescription information to pharmacies as directed by the Physician. 9. Administers medications limited to the designated MA formulary, only as designated by the Physician and after demonstrating Network competency. 10. Performs limited diagnostic testing to include but not limited to EKG, phlebotomy and laboratory testing after completing Network competencies. 11. Assists in maintaining the medication sample inventory. 12. Performs selected clerical duties including but not limited to: Provider scheduling, answering and directing telephone calls to appropriate parties, maintaining medical records in patient charts, filing patient charts, composing and typing general correspondence using correct medical terminology, using office equipment such as copier, fax machine, and E-mail system, payment collection and completion of financial documentation, entering orders and retrieving messages into and retrieving information from all appropriate computer systems. 13. Provides basic materials management including by not limited to: stocking of exam and procedure rooms, identifying, labeling and reporting of malfunctioning equipment, as well as inventory management of medical and office supplies. 14. Maintains confidentiality for written, verbal and computerized information. 15. Provides basic housekeeping duties including but not limited to: maintaining a clean, safe and orderly environment, as well as cleaning any biohazard spills according to the Network EOC guidelines. 16. Attends staff meetings and educational offerings in order to stay abreast of current information. 17. Maintains personal educational record. 18. Performs all duties so as to assist in the achievement of the Network Plan and Goals. 19. Maintains open and effective communication with staff members. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent is required. Diploma or certificate verifying graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by the (ABHES) is preferred. Some experience in a related direct patient care position is preferred. Within one month of hire, must obtain CPR certification through the American Heart Association. Skills Successful completion of identified competencies and department specific competencies within the introductory period as identified by Seton HR policy.
