This position is responsible for performing all essential functions of Testing Level IV as defined by the department. In addition, this position is responsible for a high level of technical knowledge and application of that knowledge to department testing, clinical relevance, and complex problem solving skills. This position serves as a department resource, and is responsible for assisting with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agency and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA 88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA).

The Medical Technologist prepares, thaws, and makes available for patient transfusion units of blood and blood components. When necessary, the incumbent will perform diagnostic Tests to determine the presence of infected agents, i.e. Hepatitis, HIV, etc.. The Medical Technologist calibrates, standardizes, adjusts, and maintains instruments, and verifies correct instrument operations using established procedures and quality control checks. Identifies the cause of common problems and makes minor repairs. Conducts quality control procedures on equipments and reagents and takes corrective actions, when necessary.
