RELOCATION INCENTIVE AND RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE..EDUCATION LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAMThe Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System is seeking an Optometrist for the position of TRIP Reader in the Clinical Service Program Office. The applicant will report to the facilities Chief of Ophthalmology and hold a full time VA appointment. They will be responsible for interpreting digital retinal images and making recommendation for patient follow up as part of the VA teleretinal imaging screening program for diabetic retinopathy. The Teleretinal Imaging Program (TRIP) is a store and forward telehealth technology used to acquire and store clinical information that is then forwarded to another site for clinical evaluation. TRIP is a primary care based model that will screen veterans with diabetes for retinopathy using teleretinal imaging that expedite referral for treatment and provide health information. TRIP readers function in an office environment rather than a clinic environment

Perform the preliminary assessment of visual acuity and ocular alignment on patients (children and adults).Responsibilities:-Perform specialized tests.-Use diagnostic strabismus evaluations to aid in the diagnosis of ocular motility disorder.-Measure visual activity, focusing ability and eye motor movement of eyes, separately and jointly.-Aid patients to focus and coordinate both eyes to aid in visual development.-Develop visual skills, near-visual discrimination and depth perception, using developmental glasses and prisms.-Instruct ophthalmology, pediatric and family practice residents, fellows and medical students in strabismus and orthoptics.-Present presentations and reports from research at regional, national and international orthoptic and ophthalmology meetings and for future publishing in journals.-Participate in quality improvement activities.Required Skills: Knowledge and Skills:-Knowledge of orthoptic procedures.-Ability to communicate effectively, use a PC with proficiency in word processing applications and have the ability to use equipment in an orthoptic practice.Education, Experience and Licensure:-Bachelor of Science degree and American Orthoptic Council certification.-Minimum of one (1) year of orthoptic training from an accredited school.-Forty-five (45) hours of continuing education every three (3) years.
