The BASSETT HEALTHCARE NETWORK, a multi-specialty, rural academic medical center based in Central NY, is seeking a full-time physician assistant to provide patient care for our Division of Orthopaedics at our Cooperstown location. There are 12 surgeons and 12 physician assistants in the Division of Orthopaedics providing a team approach to inpatient and outpatient care. Qualified candidate will have responsibilities as first assistant in the OR, clinic and the inpatient unit. Physician Assistant needed for a busy Orthopaedic Office. Duties include:- assisting physicians in surgery- follow-up orthopaedic visits with existing patients- new patient assessments with the physician- other duties as defined by physiciansOur physicians practice out of 8 locations throughout northwest Indiana. Our corporate headquarters is located in Chesterton, IN, 45 minutes from downtown Chicago. LBJI is a Musculoskeletal Orthopaedic practice consisting of 6 general orthopaedic surgeons, 2 hand specialists, 2 podiatrists, 1 pain management, 1 rheumatologist and 2 spine physicians and a clinical psychologist. In addition Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute offers rehabilitation at 4 of our 8 locations throughout NW Indiana.

In this position, you will evaluate and treat patients with emergency and routine orthopaedic consultations; assess patients by reviewing medical records and radiographs and performing physical examinations; interpret the physical examination and medical record review findings; order medical tests, radiographs and consultations as appropriate; and initiate therapy and provide follow-up care. You will prescribe medications; write progress notes and interim summaries on patients stats; provide patient education; refer patients to supervising physician or specialty clinics as indicated; and provide telephone consultations with primary care physicians and physician assistants regarding treatment of orthopaedic conditions. You will supervise and assist in training cast technicians and orthopaedic medical technicians in their orthopaedic rotations; and assist orthopaedic surgeons in the operation room with both major and minor surgical procedures. Qualifications:- Basic Requirement: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). - Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for continuing medical education (CME) and re-certification. - SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must also possess a minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent.
