Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in a non science, major with an Associate Degree in BiologicScience. Graduate from a National Accrediting agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), accredited pathologist´s assistant training program and/or a current Fellow of the American Association of Pathologist´s Assistants (AAPA). Fellowship must be maintained for as long as oneworks in this position. When National Certification of Pathologist´s Assistants is implemented, onemust achieve and maintain certification for as long as one works for this position. Courses Required: Human Anatomy, Basic Human Physiology, Basic Human Pathology, Specimen Photography, Autopsy Pathology, Gross dissection and description and Specimen Processing, Basic Medical Microbiology including; Infection Control, Basic Histology and Histotechnology Techniques, TissueProcessing Requirements, Strains and Frozen Section Techniques, Basic Principles of Laboratory Management, Safety and Organization, Medical terminology, Embryology and Forensic principles andtechniques. Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary toprovide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to customers,contracted providers, and vendors.Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in Pathology Department. Experience with CoPathPathology information system.Duties: Perform postmortem examinations and descriptions. Process surgical Pathology specimensincluding dissection, description and embedding for Pathologist´s diagnosis. Preparation of fineneedle aspiration specimens. Preparation of frozen sections for pathologist´s interpretation.Quality control and management of equipment and supplies in the surgical Pathology laboratory andautopsy suite. Quality improvement activities and projects for the Pathology Department Upholdstandards of practice, policies and procedures as contained in the Department´s Policy and Procedure Manuals in the surgical pathology and Autopsy service. Continued education and skills assessmentconcurrent with established and new practices and techniques as applicable in surgical and autopsypathology.
