Job Description Including but not limited to: Demonstrates an appreciable knowledge of all Sleep procedures performed in the department. Able to perform all night sleep studies and Multiple Sleep Latency tests maintaining quality assurance between 90 - 100%. Able to titrate CPAP/BIPAP such that a prescription could be called in the following day. Able to administer O2 therapy independently or in conjunction with CPAP/BIPAP. Able to troubleshoot faulty equipment and makes necessary alterations in order to continue with the study in progress. To recognize and respond appropriately to patients medical problems and physiological events, especially cardiac dysrhythmias, respiratory events, and seizures. Responsibilities Under general supervision of a sleep center clinical director (MD, DO, or PhD.) who provides the subsequent interpretation on the studies performs Polysomnography (PSG) to assess multiple physiologic parameters during sleep, including but not limited to EEG, EOG, EMG, EKG, and ventilation. PSG may include initiation of therapy by physician order. Guidelines for minimal technical standards have been outlined by the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society and the American Society of Sleep Medicine. Qualifications Education: High School Graduate Licensure, Certification, And Registration: Registration or registry eligible. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Understands and utilizes the basic principles of polysomnographic instrumentation, including analog and/or digital recording, ancillary DC devices, and positive airway pressure such that a study can be performed and presented for interpretation. Experience: A minimum of one year experience in a sleep lab or completion of an accredited PSG training program. Shift VARIABLE Physical Requirements The position requires a high degree of mental and visual concentration. Nature of work requires lifting or moving medium weight (over 20 and up to 75 pounds). Flow of work and character of duties require average manual coordination. Flow of work and character of duties require average range of motion. Performance of duties requires remaining in position for prolonged periods of time. Assignments require occasional repetitive motion. Working conditions may include occasional exposure to elements such as odor, noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes or airborne pathogens. Performance of duties may occasionally involve exposure to hazardous materials. Incumbent must be continuously prepared to prevent a patient fall. Performance of duties requires the ability to hear soft and loud noises. Position may entail exposure to bodily fluids and needle sticks, standard precautions must be used. Assignments include transporting, transfer and positioning of patients. Location: This position is located in Christiansburg, VA at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center.Hours: Full-time, Friday, Saturday and Sunday rotation. 36 hours per week. Prefer candidate to be registered by the BRPT with current experience as a sleep technologist. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Ability to obtain RPSGT by the BRPT within 12 to 18 months of employment and maintain registry. Ability to obtain BLS certification within 6 months of employment and maintain certification. Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required.
