The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Activity Therapist at Georgia Regional Hospital At Savannah
Plan, direct, or coordinate therapeutic recreation programs. Activities include sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Conducts assessment of a consumer´s condition and recommend appropriate recreational activity.Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:1. Conducts therapy sessions to improve clients mental and physical well-being 2. Confers with members of treatment team to plan and evaluate therapy programs 3. Develops treatment plan to meet needs of client, based on needs assessment, client interests and objectives of therapy 4. Encourages clients with special needs and circumstances to acquire new skills and get involved in health-promoting life skills and leisure activities, such as sports, games, music, arts and crafts, and gardening 5. Instructs client in activities and techniques, such as sports, gardening, dance, music, art or relaxation techniques, designed to meet their specific physical or psychological needs 6. Observes, analyzes, and records client´s participation, reactions, and progress during treatment sessions, modifying treatment programs as needed 7. Obtains information from medical records, medical staff, family members and the clients themselves to assess client´s capabilities, needs and interests 8. Plans, organizes, directs and participates in treatment programs and activities to facilitate client´s rehabilitation, help them integrate into the community and prevent further medical problems 9. Prepares and submits reports and charts to treatment team to reflect clients reactions and evidence of progress or regression Qualifications:Bachelors Degree in a therapeutic recreation or related therapeutic discipline Note: Some positions may require registration in the area of assignmentPreferred Qualifications:Must obtain the Relational, Conceptual, Technical, and Advanced Technical levels of MANDT certification by completion of new employee orientation, and must maintain this certification as a term and condition of employment. Bachelor´s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field. Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist by the National Therapeutic Recreation Society and licensed in State of Georgia. Minimum of two years experience in therapeutic recreation in a psychiatric or rehabilitation setting. Experience to provide clinical consultation and staff training regarding therapeutic recreation.
