Position Purpose: Under direction of the Respiratory Care Director the incumbent coordinates the daily activities of the Respiratory Care Staff and is responsible for their needed equipment and supplies to provide efficient, high quality respiratory care. This position may function as a liaison with purchasing and vendors and will assist the manager in all levels of function and responsibilities of the department as needed. Nature and Scope: This position does provide direct patient care.This position requires the incumbent to evaluate subordinates continually and with annual appraisals through direct supervision and record keeping. The incumbent will maintain personnel records to recommend promotions, recognition, discipline and the hiring and firing of personnel to the department manager.The position is also challenged to ensure cost-effective operation of the department by developing and implementing cost containment programs to provide high quality respiratory care services to achieve financial soundness of the organization and or department.The incumbent will have knowledge to make Respiratory Care decisions and recommend them to physicians. The position requires advanced clinical skills in Respiratory Care with all patients - neonate to geriatric.Respiratory Care means the treatment, management, diagnostic testing, control and care of persons with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system. The incumbent has the authority to perform and evaluate respiratory care given, to initiate CPR, to contact physicians in relation to care ordered, and perform all activities as assigned.The incumbent is accountable for the assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of Respiratory Care for Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric patients and families. They must demonstrate the ability to work with patients physical, motor/sensory adaptation, cognitive and psychosocial needs specific to the population being served, and meets standards of quality as measured by the Unit/Department age specific competency standards.The age groups listed (neonatal, adolescent, etc) and the functions performed (assessment, planning, etc) would be adjusted according to the scope and responsibilities of each position.The foregoing description is not intended and should not be construed to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills and efforts or work conditions associated with the job. Requires completion of an accredited two year Respiratory Care Practitioner program. Experience: Five years as RCP in an acute care setting. Candidates with neonatal, pediatric and critical care experience will be given preference. Supervisor/Leadership experience preferred. License(s): Current Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) by the NBRC is preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Board of Medical Examiners Respiratory Care Practitioner license. Certification(s): RRT credential is preferred. Must have AHA BLS and acquire ACLS certification within one year from hire date. Computer / Typing: Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
