Attitude of Gratitude

Attitude of Gratitude. I'm not sure where I first heard that catchy expression. It has had popular use in recent years, and books have been written about the concept. I recently heard someone use this expression and it made me think of the many people to whom I owe a strong feeling of gratitude.

There is an increasing number of people to whom I owe an expression of appreciation for various kinds of help. For example, five people were involved in taking care of my needs at a dentist's office recently. First was the receptionist who called to remind me of my appointment; second was the hygienist; third was the dentist; fourth was a second assistant who helped with a procedure done by the dentist, and fifth was the lady who gave me another appointment date.

In the past month I have seen an optometrist who prescribed new lenses, a retinal specialist who checked the condition at the back of the eyes, a foot care practitioner, a physical therapist, an orthopedic doctor, and a technician who administered a flu shot.

Others who have helped me are my faithful cleaning lady, my yard man who cleared the snow from my driveway and sidewalks, a plumber who replaced a pipe, drivers who stopped to let me cross a busy street, a hair dresser, a friend who chauffeured me to a number of places, my children who did jobs around my house, a pharmacist, the trash collector, the mechanic who winterized my car, the postman, and there were waiters at restaurants, and young people who carried groceries to my car. And of course there are the friends and family who phone or write to me or come to visit me.

I am amazed when I think of how much I owe to so many people and how dependent I am on them. I am overwhelmed with thankfulness, and I most certainly have an attitude of gratitude. And of top priority is gratitude to God for all of the blessings which I have received in a long life.
