My best employee is quitting her job. She has been offered a raise in pay and more responsibility at another hospital. I want to keep her, but I can only offer her a modest increase in pay. Should I resign myself to that fact that she's going to go, or is there a way to keep her? Are there things that I can draw on in my counter-offer that aren't related to pay or responsibility? Sincerely, At a Loss Dear Loss: If she is your best employee, she is probably also ambitious and therefore she should be moving to a position with more career development potential. If you can't offer her a more challenging position, as well as the rewards that go with it, you owe it to her not to stand in her way. ♦We're now having some of our other writers help out answering the "Dear Cindy" questions.
